anyone pre-order the KINDLE FIRE?
a friend has asked me what my thoughts are about the device and i have to admit i really haven't researched it as i was not considering purchasing it.
now, it says it streams movies and tv shows so i am guessing that you purchase them at amazon and then it streams to the device just like it does to a laptop correct? also, for the newspapers and magazines a subscription must be purchased? AND is anyone an AMAZON PRIME member? do you find that beneficial?
TIA

I have Amazon Prime. It has been worth it to me, but I shop online a lot. It gives me free 2 day shipping on almost everything that they sell.

I have preordered the Kindle Fire, but I don't have it yet. Having Prime will allow movie/TV shows to stream to it, many at no charge.

I haven't ordered a K-Fire, and will wait until I see some reviews of production models. I understand you can buy or rent movies, or stream them when you have wi-fi. I think the Fire might be a little short on memory and storage when not connected to the cloud, but that's just speculation.

Added: After the difficulty I'm currently having adjusting photos on my iPad, I wonder if my own feelings about Kindle Fire don't stem from needing to keep my expectations in check. As in, do I really want an e-reader with the ability to show pictures and stream movies when connected? Or do I really want a tablet computer that can double as an e-reader? If it's the first, then Kindle Fire will probably meet expectations just fine. If it's the second, and what I want is basically an iPad that isn't an iPad, I think I would be disappointed with Fire. Hence the wait for reviews.

I have confidence that Amazon will stay a step ahead of other connected e-readers. The contacts I've had with Kindle support have been few, quick, and helpful.

I DO have Prime and have enjoyed the no-extra charge 2nd day shipping on everything. I ordered a large, heavy 5th wheel hitch that came in 3 large boxes from Amazon. It came 2nd day for no charge. Amazing!

I am also waiting and watching. I probably would have pre ordered it if it had the 3G choice, but without that I am not interested.

So far I have really liked Amazon Prime too.

No camera, no GPS, no bluetooth, no SD/micro SD slot. With only 8 GB they are depending on the cloud.

I have also preordered the Fire. I am very happy with Amazon Prime - I more than make up the membership fee with the free shipping. Watching the TV and movie streaming is great too.

I pre-ordered the Kindle Fire and was amazed that I am in the first batch to go out. I just ordered it a little over a week ago and I am supposed to get it on Nov 16, the day after it is released.

Another new thing that Amazon just released for Amazon Prime customers is the Lending Library, which provides free access to a lot of books. I would not expect that the most popular or new release books will be available, but still a great feature/option.

I'm getting it to just surf the internet and occasional email. Also to watch movies while I travel. I don't see a problem with the 8GB limit, as long as you can plan ahead. Movies is really the thing that will take up space. I doubt anyone really needs this device for music. Who doesn't have an iPod or iPhone these days?

A little more Kindle Fire info (From Pocket-Lint):

"In addition to over 18 million movies, TV shows, songs, books, and magazines from Amazon, we are excited to offer customers thousands of apps and games to choose from on Kindle Fire - from Pandora and Rhapsody to Facebook and Twitter to Netflix, as well as popular games from EA, Zynga and many other top game developers. And this is only the beginning - we're adding more apps and games every day across all categories."

As well as the companies that Limp name-dropped there, we can also expect titles from the likes of Gameloft, PopCap and Rovio at launch, as well as apps such as Cut the Rope, Doodle Jump, Fruit Ninja, Jenga, LinkedIn, Pulse, The Cat in the Hat, Quickoffice Pro, Jamie's 20-Minute Meals, IMDb and Monkey Preschool Lunchbox.

The apps will be available through Amazon's store. The company is promising to continue its daily free app offer from the Android Appstore as well, with apps available for Fire owners.
