Just traded my 2 br LO at Kierland for an August week at Princeville. I realize the place has not opened yet, but for those who have seen the place, are there special requests I should make now about unit location (e.g. ocean view, floor number etc.) to make my stay more enjoyable? Also, how far a walk is it to the beach? Is it a nice swimming and snorkeling beach? Since we have not been to Kauai in 20 years, any other tips and website links for the visit would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Angie

I have not seen the new resort, but since the resort is not on the beach (it's up on a cliff, I think), you need to take a shuttle to the beach. I heard that is is about the distance from, say the WKORV to the Westin Maui? So maybe a 5-minute shuttle ride?

I understand that all units are considered to have the same view and were not sold by view category, but some are closer to the cliffs than others - doesn't hurt to ask...

Kauai is our favorite island and I have lots of info. about things to do on my webpage.

Click on the first photo on this page and it will give you a good idea of the location and views from the resort.

Great exchange (considering MFs for WPORV are ~$2K) - all villas are the same view catagory. The buildings are 2-3 stories. I just got a bad copy of WPORV w/ building #s during our Owners update at WKORV. There are a couple of buidings out by the bluffs - and others by the main pool. Since you are exchanging in - it probably won't matter what you request, but from the map all villas will be good.

The good snorkling is north of the resort. The 2 closest beaches are not known for snorkling. Check out Google earth for locations and photos.

Specifically we like to snorkel at Tunnels Beach in Heana. It's about 10 minutes north of Hanalei by car. Almost to K'ee beach, but not quite.

We are huge fans of the Tropical Taco in Hanalei. The tacos are delicious and huge! The Polynesia Cafe in Hanalei is also a great place, gourmet food on paper plates..... it's fun to eat outside there.

You can't go wrong in Kauai. It's paradise.

Hi Angie,

Did you trade with II, a private party or Star Options?

I haven't seen the resort code activated on II yet.

Have a great trip!

We traded with Star Options from our Starwood Kierland Villas unit. Didn't seem to be a problem trading 8 months out for either of two weeks we were looking at in August.

Thanks to everyone for the tips.

Anini beach is walkable from the resort. I believe it's about 0.3 miles.

One thing you might want to consider for requests is floor level. We prefer not to be ground floor so we requested "high floor" (i.e. 2nd or 3rd). Not all the buildings will be finished in August as construction is expected to continue through 2008, I think. We'll be there in July so hopefully the construction won't be too disruptive. I don't recall which buildings will be finished first.

As for view, we won't know where the best ones are until it opens, but I will say that the mountain views from the Princeville area are some of the best mountain views I've seen anywhere. Time will tell...
