A bit confused about my ownership....maybe a LOT confused!
I am new to Starwood and this site but before I open my silly mouth, I want to thank all of the posters here. I have bought a few timeshares and did my research on this site before buying them. Lots of very helpful information.
That being said, here's my situation: I bought resale SDO on Ebay. The contract was for a deluxe premium one bedroom, floating week, biennial odd use. (With the help of this site, I was able to determine that there is a big difference in the one bedrooms, so I made sure that I bought the large one.) The title is now in my name and I have opened my account at StarCentral. Initially, the account reflected that I had 35,200 points left for 2011 and the 44,000 for 2013. I contacted owner services, who confirmed that yes, I could use those 35, 200 points before Dec 31 or lose them and actually offered to make a reservation for me at that time. I declined. I decided to best use the time, I would deposit this week into II, a corporate account that my contract states that I am entitled to in order to buy myself some time. I put the request to deposit in through MyStarCentral.
Today, I received an email from them stating that since I bought "resale" and not from the developer, I am not entitled to use SVN at all and if I want to deposit my week, I need my own personal II account. (This isn't a big deal to me because I already have an RCI account)...but my contract signed DID say I was entitled to that use. I will take this up with the seller.
Starwood was very rude to me, constantly reminding me that since I bought resale, I am not entitled to anything except my home resort and even have since removed the 35,200 points from my account for 2011. They told me since it was not a full week of 44,000, I could not use it until 2013. I was essentially told that since I bought resale, I have robbed Starwood owners of their privileges and should consider buying from the developer in the future instead.
When I first looked into buying timeshares, I thought I understood the best thing to do was never buy from the developer since the price is so inflated...but, buy from someone reputable. I researched the company on this site and they have been a wonderful company to deal with on other transactions as well.
My question: I bought a contract that was original to Pinnacle. I thought that I could reserve a week through Starwood and then deposit that week in II for use and also use SVN internal exchange...as my contract states. Have I been had????? Regardless, I did truly buy SDO because my husband loves golf and I think the premium 1 bedroom will get me good exchanges if I decide to go that route. However, Starwood insists that I reserve through them but treat me as if I am an indigent soul and took 2011 points from my account after transfer of ownership. Can they do that????
