We arrive next week and need some advice:

I don't see anything listed about internet access. Is there any in the units or the lobby?

What are the facilities on the beach? Do you use the Westin's beach chairs and umbrellas? We usually bring our own umbrellas since shade is a priority for us. Would this be valuable here? Does the property provide any or enough umbrellas so that we don't have to mark our chairs at 5 am? Can you call ahead and reserve a spot?

What is the best unit location for a 2bd. to request?

What is the best &/or closest place for quality groceries?

Any other recommendations you think we would benefit from knowing (besides avoiding the apparently aggressive TS pitchers)??

Thanks in advance!

It's been awhile since I've stayed there, but I do remember that all the units have an ocean view since they are built on a hillside. I guess the location then will be whether you want to be closer to pools or to the lobby. They have little carts to transport you around so you'll be able to get wherever you want to go. When we stayed there, we were on the same level as the lobby so it wasn't too far a walk to get over to the tennis courts or the hotel side, and we enjoyed that location.

For groceries--there's a big market called Mega at the point where the toll road from the airport joins the main highway. From that point it's not too far to the resort, so if you have a car, you might want to check in first and see how much room you have to store stuff in the kitchen before you stock up on groceries. As I recall, the refrigerator wasn't too large--may have been only an undercounter unit with a tiny freezer. Also, there's no oven, just a microwave, so you need to take that into consideration before you buy a bunch of stuff that will be hard to cook.

If you are driving yourself or taking a shuttle, the toll road from the airport is the fastest way to get to the resort. The other way is to go through the town of San Jose del Cabo and traffic is sometimes pretty heavy.

Enjoy Yourselves!

We were there a year ago November, and the memory fades fast!

Wireless internet access was available in the lobby.

I would advise bringing your own umbrellas if you have them. Everything on the beach is shared with the hotel and I don't believe reservations were allowed. Finding a chair in the shade was a challenge.

The resort is pretty isolated from anything else. We had a car which worked out well. I would recommend one unless you don't plan on leaving. The fridge was full size - don't remember about an oven. The Mega is where we shopped too.

I don't remember seeing any TS salesmen, even in town. Most of the resorts are along the coast between the two towns.

This beach view is from the hotel side.

And say  to Mr Wilson for us. Poor guy tumbled down the cliffs so often.

I suggest that you rent a car using Carrentals.com before you leave home. You will get a better rate. Then beware when you pick up your car as you will be offered a discount if you attend a timeshare presentation. We told the woman that she would have to give us the rental car free for 2 weeks for us to attend the presentation, and she did...but we sat through about 4 hours of harrassment and still said NO.

There are some umbrellas at the pool. One suggestion is to take a 10PM swim under the stars on a clear night at one of the upper level pools. It is so beautiful...the stars are like diamonds on black velvet...and being away from town they show up so beautifully. It felt like we owned the world as we listened to the waves breaking below us and floated on our backs looking up at the stars...very special....

You will not be able to go in the ocean there, the waves have a strong undertow, but explore the pools by going to a different one each day. It is fun. there is an adult only pool on upper level. If you want to snorkel or go into the ocean, there are a couple places, Santa Maria I think is one and I can't think of the other, but it is closer to Cabo San Lucas.

We like the Tropicana in San Jose...It has thatched roof over sidewalk and has a cute boutique hotel behind the restaurant that is neat for pictures. Food was good.

Have a great time. We are going there in January of 2010.:cheer: :cheer: :cheer:

The other one is Chileno.

I agree. The Tropicana is a good place.

I have heard mixed info as to whether the units have full kitchens (regular sized fridge, 4 burner stove, micro but no oven) or just a mini efficiency.

Any info if that's just particular units or overall?

We are in a 2 bd unit.

answers to my own questions

I'm here now and thought I would post for people questioning in the future.

Internet is only available in the lobby. I was able to pick up a signal by the pool restaurant but that was intermittent.

We got an ocean front unit (there are only a few 2 bedroom OF) which just meant we did not have to look over other units to see the sea. The views were extraordinary! We were the furthest away from the lobby but felt it was our daily exercise to walk and climb the property. There was no construction happening.

The kitchens are minimal. No oven, just a micro and a fridge larger than an under the counter unit but not by much. No freezer room for anything but ice. No BBQ grills on the property. It's about enough to make breakfast or sandwiches for lunch which is good because the cost of food in the restaurants in exorbitant.....$24 for a burger???

We stopped at the Mega which has a lot but had better luck at Costco which is further towards Cabo San Lucas. The Mega is in between the airport and the hotel.

We did rent a car and had wonderful meals in both CSL and San Jose Del Cabo.

There are coin operated washers and dryers.

We did bring out umbrellas but did not use them. There were enough even though it was New Years week.
