If you own a week at one of westgate resorts and did internal exchange to another westgate (by paying a fee to westgate), can you rent that week or not?

You can place a guest name on internally banked weeks with Westgate..

However, make sure you fully understand what your costs would be before you offer a week to a guest.. I've never seen anything in writing explaining how upcharges are billed, but almost everytime I've made a request for an exchange there are some mysterious additional charges that are required (they either say it is a resort upgrade, a unit upgrade, a season upgrade...). Also, be sure to specify which banked week you want to use.. They won't automatically use the oldest unless you request it.

When dealing with this.. Proceed with caution and keep one hand on your wallet at all times..

Westgate doesn't have any limitations on renting out your unit that I'm aware of. But you will need to put the renter's name on the reservation and I'm not sure if Westgate will try to charge you another exchange fee (to cancel the reservation under your name and add a new one under the renter's name). I think one time I was able to make a reservation and call back to add the guest name later.

This is assuming you already have the exchange booked in your name. If you haven't actually done the exchange then be aware of the fees associated with exchanging into other resorts in other regions/weeks as richardm referred to. I think there is some useful info in the Owner's Guide (pg 44) - they call it a 'Developer Exchange' if you are internally exchanging fixed week. But they don't disclose how much the fees are, you have to call.

It may all depend on the rep you get on the phone and how they interpret the rules. I would try calling WG and asking your question just to clarify. But yes, you can rent the exchanged unit without breaking any rules.
