I am in the process of buying a floating Platinum week at Grand Chateau. It's a lock off unit. I am buying this to use as a trader in II. The broker told me the transfer could take up to 4 months to complete but I will have use of the 2023 week. They are asking me to identify which week I want to book. I have no intention of traveling there this year and I would really prefer to trade it into II and hopefully as 2 units (since it is a LO). I own other timeshares but this is my first Marriott purchase, so I am not sure I fully understand how the trade works. If the seller reserves a week for me, can I still put that into a trade later? Any strategies on how to best approach this would be appreciated.

Ask the seller to lock off and reserve the highest TDI weeks available in the owned season.
Once you deposit into II you will have 2 years from the check in date to complete your travel.

The farther away the check-in date is from when you will deposit it in II (and you can't do that until after closing) the better for trading value.

I just want to add some support to Pamplemousse's post. I do this every year for Grand Chateau (GC). Also, make sure you have the seller get your reservation for next year as you will not be able to do this while waiting for the close and subsequent recording on the Vacation Club record. However, considering your purchase timing, I would not be too concerned even if you did not do this as I've found it quite easy to get great GC reservations.

Grand Chateau's Platinum weeks are 50 of the 52 weeks. A high Travel Demand Index for Grand Chateau is only 125 to 130 and you should have no trouble getting a week reserved at these levels.
