Question from new WKORV owner - event weeks?

Just got my paperwork for my closing on a WKORV OFD. Based on my review of posts here, my understanding was that I'd be able to reserve weeks 1-50. However, the deed doesn't have any restriction on weeks 51 or 52. In fact, the Resale Information Sheet sent by the association states that it is floating, weeks "1 - 52". Does this mean I will be able to reserve the unit for weeks 51 and 52, subject to availability? If not, where would the restriction be on ownership usage?

After two years of collecting the information on this board, we finally made the plunge, so thanks to all for your wealth of information.

Weeks 51 & 52 were sold as event weeks and only the owners of those weeks can reserve them. Your week will float 1-50.

Congrats on the purchase!!!!!!!!!

I think no matter what, you won't have access to weeks 51 and 52 unless you bought a week that was deeded into one of them (an event week).

The OFD week 52s were going for $90,000 resale!

Congratulations on your purchase. Per your Owner's Agreement, week 51-52 and two other weeks (Japanese holidays) are coded as "Event Weeks." One is in mid-April, I believe, but I don't have the OA at work.

Thanks again. So I assume there is another document that limits my access. I assume that is the "Vacation Plan Documents" referred to in the deed. I'll have to get that from the seller. I never knew about the Japanese holiday weeks. Good to know.

You are correct. Looking further into the condo documents, you will see descriptions for the "Event Weeks" which are sold at a premium. The Japanese holiday week is OBON - it is their new year.

I think the resort was describing the platinum+ season weeks which are 1-52, I dont think they were trying to imply that you had access to these weeks.

Trust me (us) you are not going to get those weeks.

Okay, the WKORV event weeks are: The last two weeks of the year which encompass Christmas and New Year's Day, and two Japanese holidays: "Golden Week" which is the week that encompasses the most # of these dates: April 29 and May 3-5; and "Obon Week" which is the week of August 15th.

For the Japanese holidays, are you guys saying that Starwood sold these weeks as ONLY event weeks? I'm pretty sure a owner who owns weeks 1 through 15 can reserve an August 15th week. Where I know a float owner cannot reserve week 51 or 52 during their home period. They can attempt to try at the 8 month window though.

Actually, if I remember correctly only weeks 51 and 52 were sold as strictly event weeks....the other "event" weeks were sold at about 50% as fixed weeks.

Since there are no seasons at the Hawaii resorts, I don't think anyone owns week 1 - 15 only?

That makes sense. So an event week is not impossible for float owners to get, but more difficult because SVO sold up to 50% of the villas as fixed event weeks.

I think that Tugger DeniseL looked into reserving an event week and Owner Services told her she couldn't - not that there wasn't any availability, but that only event weeks owners could reserve them. Hopefully, she will weigh in here.

I we know that Owner Services always knows what they are talking about! :D

Opps.. that is a typo Denise... I was just commenting that the Japanese weeks were not fixed weeks and should not be advertised as such.

I meant to type weeks 1-50...

I think in some resorts it is like that (Lagunamar I believe is 50% fixed, 50% open during event weeks) but in HI, you have to OWN that week (51 or 52) in order to get it. Otherwise there is no way to book that week. Remember, in Hawaii, those weeks are selling for over $100,000. Pretty darn sure there is no way for people to get that week unless they forked over the cash.

I'm sorry for the confusion. I was speaking specifically of the Japanese holiday weeks but I didn't make that clear. I've never heard of someone being told they couldn't reserve the week of August 15th...
