We have rented our Marriotts on occasion, and currently have one unit listed for rental. As you know, Marriott keeps the owner name on the reservation and adds the renter's name.

I have gotten several inquiries from people who want it NOW and will Pay me NOW. I get the impression they do not want the unit for themselves, they want to broker or rerent, since we are posting a prime week and asking a reasonable (cheap compared to others listed) rental fee, just to complete the rental early. I tend to ignore these inquiries, but it begs a question of whehter I am correct in my assumption. (DH doesn't care but I do!)

Can they rent a unit from me, where I would add their name and then add another person's name to the rental reservation? Would Marriott do that? :ponder:

Yes, they are usually brokers and many times have a client lined up.

Preston is one who wants to act 'now' and needs a cell number 'urgently'. That said, I believe he is legit and would definitely rent to/thru him.

The last couple of years my BeachPlace timeshare has been rented by Florida brokers. Both time the transaction was seamless.
