Question for Pueblo Bonito owners

I own at PB Mazatlan and I also have a Mount Amanzi timeshare that I use for trades. I wanted to get a guest certificate (using one of my Mt Amanzi banked weeks) for a friend who wanted to go to Mazatlan this March. I found a week available at the Marina El Cid and coudln't confirm it on the internet so I called RCI. RCI told me that since I owned at PB in Mazatlan I could only trade a PB week for any other resort in Mazatlan and could not use one of my other deposited Mt Amanzi weeks for a trade into Mazatlan.

Has anyone heard of this before? It caught me by surprise!! I just can't figure out why owning at PB in Mazatlan would having anything to do with using another resort to trade into Mazatlan. If anyone has any insight I sure would appreciate the info. TIA

The only reason I can think of is that your other timeshare may not have enough power to get Marina El Cid but PB does since both are gold crown and very nice resorts. In peak season which is basically now to end of April-- it probably requires a stronger trader.

There seems to be some kind of area block among resorts according to this message RCI has on the PB Mazatlan site:

Maybe the resort you are trying to exchange into has some kind of block against owners at other Mazatlan resorts. Maybe call back and speak to another RCI agent and see if you get a different answer.

The same situation applies in Cabo. With a few exceptions, if you own in the Los Cabos area, RCI places restrictions on exchanging into other resorts in the area.

RCI is giving us another reason to rent from owners on sites like TUG and Redweek.

PB Owners

First of all it is not RCI that is doing this, it is the resorts at least that is what a manager at PB Sunset told me. He said that they didn't want people to buy cheap units and then trade into theirs. You can however trade with the sister resorts.

Doesn't make sense to me! I'd take all the 'cheap week owners' in that I could, and get them to the sales table.

You might check back with RCI and see if they have any Extra Vacations available and the cost. I was told by a guide about a week ago that the cash transactions do not have the same restrictions. When Madge was here on TUG the 1 in 4 and the blocks were discussed a lot and it seemed like the rules did not apply for those. Last calls would also be exempt according to the guide I talked to.

The 1 in 4 only applies to trades, extra vacations and last minute deals to not apply.
