Question about Starwood only being able to do a "Request First in II"

I have a SMV 1br EOY and asked for Starwood to Deposit my 2012 week with II. Their response is as follows: "We regret to inform you that it is not possible to deposit the week with Interval International (II) as we no longer deposit weeks. We can only assign the week with II. In the past, your week was assigned a week and unit number and placed in your Interval International (II) membership account. This was a final transaction that extended the use of your ownership week for up to two years."

The week is not showing up in II so I am unable to initiate an online search. Is this an II or Starwood issue?

When you say it's not showing up do you mean that it's not listed when you click "Exchange" and "My Units", or it's just not listed under Deposit History?

I know mine don't show up under the history, but I have no problems starting a search.

Hi Steve - The process changed in Aug. 0f 2009. Have you had a chance to read the II FAQ at the top of the forum?

Is the week registered with II? This is a different process than depositing.

You can no longer deposit your reserved week - any reservations must be cancelled.

On the same phone call, tell Starwood you want to "designate your week for exchange." (You cannot deposit it directly with II. - you must go through SW.)

Starwood will notify II, and then you will use the predetermined trading value for your unit/season to trade with.

All trades are request first, now.

You will never see an indication of the "deposit" in your Acct. All you will see is a placeholder for the current calendar year, and so currently, you'd use the 2012 placeholder to put in an ongoing request - but you must call Starwood first.

I know it's stupid - but that's how they do it.

Check out the II FAQ and let us know what questions you have.

Response to Denise and Scootr5

Scootr5- it does not show up under " my units" hence my inability to search against the week. My 2010 week has been there but I exchanged it yesterday.

Denise- I did go to the FAQ last night to start my research and saw where things changed in 2009. However, there are still references about deposit weeks to II. I added to my confusion because my 2010 week got "deposited first" and not sure when I did it but I think it was done 7/09. I just exchanged it for a May WKORN 2 br yesterday, so hoping to get my 2012 week listed in hopes of a January week at the same resort since they just did a bulk deposit recently.

So I'm guessing I have done what I need to do from the Starwood end and just need to contact II to get the unit to show up in my account.

Steve - "depositing weeks to II," and "designating your weeks for exchange," has the same meaning under the new rules., because that's the only way you can deposit to II, now.

*Unless you own a true fixed week, which you can still deposit yourself.

The ONLY information about your "deposit" that will ever show up in your II Acct. under the current rules, is a placeholder dated for the current year. NOTHING will ever show up in "deposits," under the deposit tab. You have to keep your own records. Under the old rules, you saw a deposit - under the new rules, there is no record of it online. The only way you know it's done, is from the Starwood emailed comfirmation.

So-
Did you call Starwood and ask them to "designate your 2012 week for exchange"?

Did you get an email from them indicating that it has been "designated for exchange"?

If you answer "yes," to both questions, that means your 2012 week has been "deposited" and it is ready for exchange.

You will use the 2012 "placeholder," to put in an ongoing request - there will be no online indication that a "deposit" has been made.

If your answer is "no," you need to start by calling Starwood and ask them to "designate your 2012 week for exchange."

After you receive an email from them confirming the "deposit," you can put in your request.

That's strange, because even my SBP that I have not deposited shows up under my units. I thought you would always see a placeholder for your units there, even if you had not deposited them.

I have the email from Starwood

What I want to be able to do with the week is to very simply go to Exchange in the II website, and do a search. I have both deposited and undeposited Marriott weeks in II so I think this week should look like my undeposited Marriott week except the blue "Deposit week" button will not be in the unit options.

I can't find the 2012 week in my II account, so where would the week show up in my account?

I do appreciate your help.

I just clicked "Exchange", typed in a resort code and picked my dates, clicked "Continue", and then got the page where I would select which of my units to search with, and then clicked "Vacation Exchange". It ran the search.

Log in to II, click on "exchange," and then, "my units." If it's not there, then the week is not registered with II. It may be that they "lost" it in the roll-over from the old system to the new system.

BTW - seaching with an undeposited week will not get the best results. A week that is deposited AND has an ongoing request in place has higher trading power and trades easier. See the FAQ for the details.

I don't know when you deposited your 2012 week, but I was told some times it can take a few days to show up on II's website.

Yes, but he should still see the generic listing under "My Units". It sounds like II does not have it registered.

I called II to get it fixed

The first II CSR could see the week on his system and transferred me to another CSR who would try to fix my problem. I had an appointment, so I had to drop off the line after being on hold the whole time. I just called back and made the issue very simple and said, "my SMV is not showing up under my units". The CSR messaged someone at II that would see that the unit got added to my account. They said I should be seeing it within 48 hours.
