I have a friend whose Mother was selected on the TV show "Queen For a Day" with Jack Bailey back in 1952. I would really like to surprise her with a copy of the show for her birthday. Does anyone know where I could find one? It would make such a special birthday present. I have her name and the date but don't know where to look. I beleive it was a show on local Los Angeles television back at that time. Any suggestions?

I used to love watching "Queen for a Day". A big prize was a washer and dryer in those days.

I saw something a year or so ago that a lot of tapes from shows back in the 50's were taped over and never preserved. Good luck finding something. Have you tried a google search?

Pat:
I googled and found this site:

http://www.shokus.com/game.html

Check #309 (I think). It says they have only been able to find two entact kinescoped eposodes, and it looks like a lot later than 1952.

Another site came up...Queen for a Day was a radio program in the 1940s and continued while the TV program ran. I think they said it started in 1952, on LA TV before they put it on the full network. (So, it might really be hard to find)

Pepsodent wonder where the yellow went was an advertiser. (Gee even then they worried about 'yellow'.

I am not sure which station aired it back then here in Los Angeles.

But one of the oldest (if not the oldest) stations in LA is KTLA-5.

Perhaps you can email them and maybe an archivist or someone there would be of some assistance. (simply google KTLA and the link will show).

I see from one website it was filmed in Hollywood on Sunset near Vine, which wouldn't be far from the KTLA studio.

Good Luck!

What about the Radio TV Museum in NYC. I was told you can view old shows when you are visit. Maybe an archivist there could help you.

If it filmed at Sunset and Vine, instead of KTLA it was probably the old CBS "Television City" Studios.

Unfortunately most of those old shows were taped over, but check the museum anyway.

As an alternative, try getting her a newsmagazine (Look, Life, Time, etc.) for the week in question.

You may be right about that Fern, the website just gave a restaurant name that it was near Sunset & Vine.

Wasn't the old NBC also at the corner of Hollywood & Vine or near that corner?

I just suggested KTLA because it's still there in Hollywood.

I should have also remembered the Museum of Television and Radio (MTR.org)
in Beverly Hills, as a place to get oldies info.
