OK, I did try a bit to search these forums to get the answer to my question, but then figured one of you out there was just sitting around sipping your coffee (or Corona) waiting for me to ask  ...so here goes.

We've been to PV several times on cruises, and have taken cabs back and forth between 'Old Town' and the cruise terminal...but we have never flown into PV before.

So the question is; what's the best way to get from the airport to our resort (Lindo Mar), pre-arranged shuttle or just get a taxi?

Thanks

Steve

Steve, there's a special license for taxis from the airport and the cost is much higher. Go past the timeshare body-snatchers and above all don't stop! If you are traveling light, walk just outside the airport exit (off airport grounds) and hail a taxi there. If not, just get a taxi price before getting in. Tipping a taxi driver in Mexico brands you as a tourist. Locals don't. Taxi prices go by 'zones' in PV, and your resort is close in on the S. side. You might email the resort for their suggestion- they may know of an inexpensive shuttle.

Here's a link to getting around PV- rates etc- and a whole lot more: http://vallartainfo.com/puerto-vallarta-transport.html#airport

Taxi

It is true that pv taxis are cheaper off airport grounds, but if you go outside of the aiport doors, you are stiil on their grounds and it is still the higher price. To get a lower priced taxi you have to exit the terminal, turn left and walk across the pedestrian bridge to the street near the airport. They have cabs waiting there for people seeking the lower fare. We used to do that, but don't bother anymore. It is customary to tip the driver for handlng your bags only. We take lots of one dollar bills for tips. And we still tip the cab drivers. They work hard and they are fun to practice my Spanish with. Lindo Mar does not have a shuttle, although when you are there, they will call a cab for you. From the airport just arrange your own. Prices are by zone as the previous poster said. Always ask for the fare to your destination before you get in. We are paying 50 pesos to the Romantic Zone to Ocho Cascadas (near Lindo Mar) right now.

It's no gracias, not gracious. If you get confused, just think "grassy-ass", it's close enough!

Blame it on auto-correct. It was spelled correctly, just the wrong word in the wrong language.

I had to turn auto correct off on my iPad. It drove me nutz correcting words that didn't need it. Like nutz!

We also own at the Lindo Mar and if you take a cab right out the airport doors it was about $20 last January.

It was $15 from the Lindo Mar to the airport last January.

We always have a lot of bags for 2 weeks so going accross the brigde to save maybe about $5 is not worth it to us.

We are going to the Lindo Mar this Nov 25 for a week on a exchange and again January 21-Feb 4, 2912 on our regular weeks.

Thanks Bruce! Yup, schlepping bags is not worth saving a few pesos...or even dollars :)

Airport transportation

Here's a link for a private company to pick you up at the airport. superiortoursvallarta.com I got this recommendation from a friend of mine, Pamela Thompson, shi is a registered nurse, who has lived in P.V. for years, worked in the travel industry, ambulance dispatcher, hospital worker, and now runs her own service called Health Care Services that helps tourists find doctors and helps them with all other aspects of healthcare that they might need. She refered us to an excellent cardiologist because my husband has a heart problem. We were able to meet with him a few years ago. We've never needed his services while we spend our winter vacatiosn in P.V. but we feel very secure with the knowlege that he is available to us in case we do need him sometime. If you are spending any time in P.V. and you don't know about her, you really should look her up. You can email her at pamela@healthcareresourcespv.com or go online to HealthCareResourcesPV.com She also knows a lot about tours and transportation, too. She is has wealth of information! She also collects "gently used" baby clothes for the hospital. I've been taking her things for years even tho I now have to pay for the extra suitcase to take it all down there.
We have not actually used this transportation co. because we usually go first to the Grand Myan and they provide transportation out to Nuevo, but if I needed transportation, I would try this one. Love the idea that they will give you a 30 min stop for groceries, too.
How great is that?

And the answer is....

After doing more research on TUG and TripAdvisor, we have booked with http://www.puertovallartatours.net/airport-transfers.htm It is $10.50 pp but at least we shouldn't have to be confused as to who to look for, what to ask for, ask for a price first, etc.

When we flew into Cabo (for the 1st time) this past May we had to run the timeshare gauntlet as well. We even had some guys tell us they represented the shuttle company we had made arrangements with and should go with them...umm, sorry buddy, your shirt is NOT the right color!

We are in PV now, and I just wanted to follow-up on this thread to say that using PV Tours was FLAWLESS

After we paid on line we received our confirmation and then an email with our ticket attached with explicit directions on how to by-pass the mob and who to look for and where. We printed that out, gave it to the gal holding our sign upon arrival, and were greeted quickly by our driver and whisked out of the airport before I even had a chance to take any pictures. He even offered to stop at a store if we needed, and if we hadn't been in such a hurry to get to Lindo Mar in time for Happy Hour we would have taken him up on it!

Steve

Oh, we made HR with 5 min to spare :whoopie:

Hi Steve,
Just wondering, did you tip him as well?
What is the standard USA dollars for tipping per piece Tuggers?
We usually tip $20P in Maz but haven't been there for a couple of years.

Thanks Diane
