Putting lockout back together?

I am having trouble finding a 2br exchange as apparently everyone is splitting the lockout into two desposits. I am considering using 2 ACs to get a both sides of a unit. I would then call proir to check-in and ask to receive adjacent rooms so I could put them together as a 2 br. Has anyone ever tried this before? If so, was there any problems getting adjacent units?

What your trying to do is very difficult. First you will have to secure two units at the same resort at the same time using ACs. This will be difficult unless you are requesting off season weeks at a lower demand property which is likely what you are doing since it is with an AC.

Getting two weeks at a high demand property will be very, very hard to do.

Second, most, if not all resorts will take the room request but they will not guarrantee a specific location.

Where are you trying to do this?

No problem, be happy

I’ve done this several times and Marriott has no problem. Just call in 1 week ahead of check in (I recommend a Friday). Just tell them you want to be joined and I’ve never had a problem. (This assumes that you have a studio and a 1BR reservation at the same Marriott at the same time)

We are doing this for week 51 at Summit Watch – we got 2 exchanges – a Studio and a 1BR. If I have a problem I’ll alter folks.

I've also done it without problems. As long as the two parts you have reserved are for the same resort and same check in day you shouldn't have any problem with advance notice as Perry suggests. However, II can't do it for you...that's a front desk thingy.

Wow; TUG is morphing

Ken,

Are you suggesting that if I have a problem of not being able to combine the studio and 1BR I should keep it a closely guarded secret? Wow; TUG seems to be morphing into something besides one owner helping another.

I'm confused.

Perry, did you perchance miss Ken's playful intent regarding your apparent inadvertent use of "alter" instead of "alert"? Or were you also asking playfully? Not seeing a smilie, it's not clear.

Can I spell dyslexic?

Well, in the immortal words of Homer Simpson “doh!”.

Ken, I’m sorry I had a dyslexic altered alerted episode; please accept my apologies.

I’m so used to the spelling checker correcting my spellling mistakes that I see what I thought I wrote even if it’s a near miss.

Again, sorry.

I had a BIG problem doing this!

Checked into Aruba Surf Club - we had an owners (Bob)reservation for a studio and an exchanged (Me) week for a 1BR....
Called 2 weeks before check-in and again at 1 week to ask that these units be together,,,,,Were reassured both times that the reservations were linked.
When we arrived, we told them what we wanted and had called twice about....they said they couldn't do it...became a whole PITA (they gave us keys to a unit that was already occupied!)

Finally ended up in seperate units and then we moved one unit the next day.

I don't know if the problem was that both resies were not in my name....but it was a real annoyance. I had a studio unit with a next day check-in also and they seemed more concerned about getting that unit on the same floor as us....go figure!

Truth or consequences

First, anytime we deal with Marriott, or other companies, that are “doing us a favor” I document the “favor " they did me and who did it. If that favor is not done or screwed up I start calling and demanding satisfaction. To say that I’m an aggressive consumer is to understate the fact.

We did this with Beach Place Towers and got a free week back, via an II exchange – I sent an eMail to the head honcho at Marriott and he made up for their failure to provide “Marriott standards”.

If Marriott agrees to do something and then don’t do this I, for one, hold their feet to the fire. When you look at the capital expended to get to the Marriott they can damn well click the rooms, on the scheduling program, to make them adjoining – it’s that simple.

Typically, we double check on a reservation just before we make airline reservations and then 2 weeks ahead of check-in and then 1 week ahead of check-in and then just before we board the airplane. I make the assumption that the folks at the resort are paid $10 an hour and count the minutes until they leave that nite.

All along the way we make requests as to room assignment, views, and any special requests like a fold-a-bed. If the folks working at the resort make a promise and then break that promise there is a consequence to pay – at least with our family.

the resort works with the given inventory

When I asked the GM of Ocean Pointe about putting together a 1 bedroom and efficiency she said they would try but couldn't guarantee it. My renter's weren't happy with the odds so they only took the 1 bedroom.

As was explained to me, the problem was in the inventory the resort receives about 2 weeks prior to check in. The resort gets so many 2 bedrooms, 1 bedrooms and efficiencies. Then they have to work at the room location requests they've received.

If you ask to have a 1 bedroom and efficiency side by side, be prepared to be very flexible in the room location.

Surprise!

1 to 2 weeks before check-in the inventory assignment folks start their once a week work – usually on a Friday at Marriott as I understand it. That’s the time a person must call and ask for the two units to be assigned to the same villa. Call at 8 AM on that Friday (sounds like making Marriott reservations doesn’t it) and make your request. If necessary call back an hour or two later and confirm that the job was done.

Unfortunately the consumer must take on this responsibility in today’s world – you can’t assume that the employee will do what the employee is paid to do. You know what they say about ASSuME.

So just like making a reservation at a Marriott, you must get up early and be on the phone at 8 AM when the employees show up.

Many times exchange reservations are given the worst locations in the buildings and since many exchanges are for broken units (e.g. Studio and 1BR) when they are put together you may get a better view or location. It’s worth the effort.

However, there is the possibility that the units will not wind up being merged into a villa and you must make your plans accordingly. This fact is, however, available the day before check-in and should not be a surprise.
