Greetings tuggers,

I have read several articles and am overwhelmed by the wealth of information offered. Currently, I own a timeshare Lawrence Welk timeshare through resale and just purchased a Starwood EOY 2bedroom in Orlando for $16K with MF of $1.5K and with this option am allowed to select 5 home resorts and have star options which I have read is not an option when you purchase resale.

Leaning to rescinding the purchase agreement with developer and purchase re-sale but don't really understand the exchange (will purchase mandatory resort) and the availability with that option and the ease of use with this option.

I mentioned purchasing re-sale to salesperson and he noted that don't have staroptions and will operate like the "traditional" timeshare instead of the options you have with SVG program with check-in dates with more than just Sat/Sun.

Please share your experiences as it will help me make my final decision.

You can get this timeshare on the resale market every day for FREE!

You should absolutely rescind!

You need to rescind first - today - and then we'd be happy to discuss buying resale with you.

Here is the Reader's Digest Version:

There are 5 resorts that do have Staroptions when you buy resale:

* Harborside at Atlantis
* Vistana Villages (Bella and Key West phases only)
* Westin St. John (Virgin Grand - Hillside only)
* Westin Ka'anapali & Westin Ka'anapali-North
* Westin Kierland Villas

When you have a chance - here is the Starwood FAQ - BUT RESCIND FIRST:

You really do need to rescind, as others have advised. I think resale in a Mandatory resort is a wise purchase. I would personally buy Vistana Villages Bella for the mandatory SO's, and I would bet a good one would be under $4K. Same exact thing you bought, or maybe even better.

Absolutely do what has been mentioned. We have done both resale and dev. After spending some time reading this BBS, buying mandatory resale you might consider a dev purch to requal the resale. But as has already been said RESCIND

Yes rescind. Cindy had a good alternate purchase strategy. Could use those Vistana Villages Bellas SOs to book those other 5 resorts at 8 months out. That 4 month difference for the 5 home resorts booking preference is not worth thousands of dollars IMO.

Resale Purchase?

I purchased on Saturday, 11/21 so completing my recession paperwork now as I'm still within the cancellation period.

What is unclear to me with purchasing from one of the mandatory resorts are you only allowed to exchange between the 5 or all 19?

Congrats for finding TUG in time.

If you buy a mandatory deed, you'll be able to trade into any SVN property. Don't let the salespeople confuse you (which they do quite well) - ignore everything you learned during the meeting, read the FAQ here, various threads and you'll know more than the sales people in no time and find that you just saved yourself a bundle while likely having more StarOptions for more trips.

If you have StarOptions, you can reserve any Starwood timeshare (are there really 19?) eight months prior to check-in, assuming availability.

Availability will not be an issue at any of the Florida resorts (it is an issue at Maui, St. John, and Harborside during prime season).

If you purchase mandatory resorts, you have access to all 19? Resorts using StarOptions.
See my signature to the left, 2 out of three ownerships are resales at Starwood mandatory resorts and the third is one I will always use at the home resort so will not miss not having SOs.

Yes - all 19.

Be aware that the timeshare sales person is very likely to have given you false info., because if they told the truth, no one would buy from them.

After you rescind, take a look at the FAQ that I posted above for the FACTS.

Sounds like Vistana Resort.
