My recollections of the eastern end of Puerto Rico are mimis (biting gnats -- like wings with teeth), little lizards/kinks/geckos, coquis (tree frogs), the land crab that lived under a section of our sidewalk, insufferable humidity, and frequent showers often from a single cloud passing by that would leave a dark stripe across the road. Oh! The snake that somehow got on the roof and managed to crawl into the toilet vent down to the commode. My wife hasn't screamed like that since!
On the plus side, my fianceé flew from Santiago, Chile to San Juan so we could get married. And our daughter was born there.
