Hey everyone I have an exchange to Pueblo Bonito in Cabo for the week of July 1st through RCI.

Doesn’t look like I can cancel as RCI cancellation is only good for reservations until June 30th.

Has anyone travel to Mexico recently? How safe is it to travel there?

Also, what are must do and see things in Cabo? Is a car rental needed? This is our first time going to Cabo.

Thanks

If I were going, I would just plan to hang out at the resort. It will be safe. Who knows about the various tours. I would go to a grocery and buy some breakfast/lunch items and them just do dinner there. Or, you can do the A/I - it should be reasonable since they are so glad to have guests!

We have plans to go to PV in November, but even our youngest son has commented that they may just hang out with us on the deck and we will all cook in more. He and his wife usually spend most of there days by/in the pool and going out for dinner. That surprised me.

Its going to be hot....just realize that. We love Cabo. I think if its your first time, you really should rent a car. This way, you can drive to see Todos Santos, go into San Jose De Cabo, ect. We've been so many times now we are just happy to hang out at the resort and take the shuttle to the sister resorts in town. If you don't rent a car, there are still plenty of ways to get around. No rooms are bad at PBSB and there are many many pools and restaurants on site. Think seriously about the AI as the food prices are extremely high now. The food is really pretty good and if you drink at all it pays for itself. Bring $1 bills to tip the cart drivers each time you ride. (which you will ride as the resort is huge) The people of Los Cabos are lovely. Try to go into San Jose for the Art Walk ( I think Thursday night) and Flora Farms is great for dinner....might be too hot for lunch in July. We like "The Office" the first night in Cabo San Lucas. Its a taxi ride away, right on the beach, totally touristy but very fun for 1st time visitors. You wont be able to go in the water at the beach at PBSB but ocean swimming is great at the Rose' (shuttle ride to sister resort) Our fixed week is in Building 20. We like those buildings up on the hill as its crazy loud with the waves crashing. tried closer to the beach and everything is much more spectacular up high (just a thought if you are offered a choice on location)

As first timers to Cabo I wouldn't do AI, as I'd want to explore. As said, San Jose Del Cabo is nice, and has some good restaurants. There's La Paz as well, just up the coast - but I'd pay a tour company to show me the sights and save a car rental for another trip when I knew the area better. I think most people that go to Cabo are there for one (or more) of three things. 1. Partying. 2. Golfing. 3. Fishing. All of those are abundantly available in the area. Swimming isn't the best in Cabo so if that's what you want make sure to ask around and find a nicer place to go without an undertow. Of course, if you just want sun and a pool - forget everything I just said. Get the AI and grab a lounger by the pool every morning and you'll be in heaven!

Using US dollars is an area that people feel strongly about for and against. I live in México and am against it as it causes the person you tip to have to go to a bank, where they may not even have an account, pay exchange fees, and waste a chunk of their time (I rarely walk into a bank and see a teller in less than 15 minutes) on their day off. A 20 peso bill is the equivalent to a US Dollar and is much easier for everyone - you'll just have to make one trip to a bank to get them if your front desk can't make change. And yes, service staff will say they're happy to take a US dollar - because they are being polite.

Hot. Muggy. Think Houston. Walk on the shady side of the street. Carry water (always!!). Go out in the morning and then in the late afternoon and evenings. Stay inside (in air conditioning) during midday hours - use the time to take a refreshing siesta.

Safety? Have you looked at the news lately? It's immeasurably better than a lot of cities in the states! Most crime here is targeted between cartel members. As a tourist it's unlikely you'll be involved in any criminal activities unless you seek them out.

And enjoy your trip!

I was at Pueblo Bonito Sunset Beach at the end of January (RCI exchange). It was our first time at Cabo.
I didn't know if I should rent a car, I rented one and I really didn't regret.
With a car I avoided to pay for a shuttle between the airport and the resort.
The parking is free at the resort and with your parking ticket, you also have access to the Rose sister resort (no need to worry about the shuttle).
We went to Todos Santos by our own, with a nice stop at Cerritos beach on the way back for a surf course + a nice dinner with a wonderful sunset.
With our car we went to Playa Santa Maria, a beautiful public beach where you can do snorkeling if you bring your own gear. (you can also bring your drink)
Some people do an expensive tour to stop 30 min. in the bay. With our car we could relaxed the whole day ;).
These two activities + the shuttle covered more than the 200$US we paid to rent a car.

As we wanted to visit Cabo, we didn't take the AI, but ate sometime at the resort.
I liked the food at the market, and the price was good. I also tried their top restaurant "La Frida". and I really love it (more expensive of course)
If you plan to drink a lot at the resort, maybe the AI can be a good choice... the drinks are very expensive. (20 $ US at regular price)
At Cabo, I recommand the food tasting tour (we did the Juan more taco tours), It was one of my favorite activities at Cabo... I love to taste need food.
If you can do this tour at the beginning of your trip, you'll some good suggestion for the rest of your trip.
We did a Whale watching tour... really nice, but in July it's probably not the better time for that.

We did the Pueblo timesharing presentation... it worth if you are able to say "no" at the end.
Does it worth if you say "yes"? that another story !

If you don't take the AI, stop at the grossery an buy a lot's of water, and coffee for the morning (a coffe maker is available in the room)
Another detail, if you want to wifi, it's include with the AI... without AI, you have to pay $$$.
We feeled really safe during our trip, I can't say now with the Corona virus !

Enjoy your trip

Thanks for the comments everyone. I was able to cancel since RCI extended their cancellation policy. Will definitely look into rebooking for 2021 or 2022

Once owned these: FirstFairway@Walden X 2; Lawai Beach; ManhattanClub; PuebloBonitoRose; 4 South Africa--now timeshare-free
My daughter and son-in-law checked into PB Sunset Beach Sunday and they're having a marvelous time. There aren't many other people staying there and they had one of the pools all to themselves. They said everything was so clean and the service is excellent. They're doing the AI and they've been delighted with the food. My daughter works from home (even before the pandemic) and she has been able to work early in the day while her husband plays golf. Then she's free to enjoy the resort in the afternoon/evening. The wi-fi has been sufficient for her needs. All safety protocols have been followed around the resort and at the airport, and they feel very comfortable being there.
