All,

I got an email from PuckmanFL telling me that he and Carol are having a great time in Europe, and indicating he will have more to post for us when he returns. Sounds like he is having a great time! He asked me to post this and I'm looking forward to more trip details.

Travel safe Puck!

Best,

Greg

Enjoy the trip

Greg, thanks for the post.

Puck, enjoy Paris. Was in your chair 2 weeks ago with family. Went through France, Germany, Italy and Greece (most fun) but had to come back one day before kids school starts. Weather was OK but hot at times. Hope you have a great trip.

Puck,

Sounds like your having a great time and even beat me to 2000 with limited internet. I don't know about "vacation of a lifetime.." Are you planning on not traveling anymore? There's a lot more good stuff to see and do on the 3rd rock from the sun. You haven't even been to Stony Brook yet. We're famous you know. We have the only Post Office in the US that has a sculpted eagle over the entrance that flaps it wings every hour.

The Sistine chapel's got nothing on us.:)

 Jim- Haha- I never knew that about the Stony Brook post office (not that I really cared...). But I do remember the days when the medical center was merely a metal frame and the once famous Bridge to Nowhere was a renowned university highlight. DH and I both received our undergrad degrees from SUNY at Stony Brook.

If he's like us, after each 'trip of a lifetime', we start plotting the next one. A good night's sleep, and he'll be good to go.

good afternoon...

All rested and recovered. High Holy Days completed and back to work on Saturday. Pictures (all 1700) of them, currently uploading and I will publish the link shortly.

While nothing compares to downtown, Stonybrook, L.I. (yes, Jim, i'm done now) the trip was just awesome.

Arrived 9/1 8 am (after pleasant flight) to Marriott Champs Elysees. Room was waiting and was an upgrade. This hotel rocks. The Free breakfast for platinum Elite was a true buffet, not a special lounge. It sold for 40 Euros pp. A great way to start the day. Service was impeccable...

Paris was more than expected. 1str day (after nap) we rode the Big Red Bus, just to get oriented. Snagged a 2 day pass with river cruise (1 hr) for 40 euros. A real nice way to start. Interestingly, we were looking for fine french cuisine at a sidewalk cafe, but they all promote variations of "pizza". Visit to Tower for dinner 58 restaurant was off the charts nice. Greg posted photo. Versailles palace was as expected. Only 1/2 day needed. We did a Louvre tour with wine tasting. This was completely unecessary. You can get there with Metro, buy a ticket and self guide. We did take a private car, walking tour of Paris. This was really great (but pricey) but the guide knows all the little nooks and crannies. The locals were very helpful with newbies. The Metro is easy with English Instructions. Paris is very easy for the self explorers, with a planned itenerary and pre-game planning including mapping out the Metro stops you wil need.

One Helpful hint, If you visit Tower..don't go to Tower Metro station. Take #6 line to Trocadero, get your pix there and cross bridge to tower. The tower station lets you off in a seedy area where you will be innundated with sales people and "carny" games trying to take your coin!!!

On 9/5 off to Barcelona. Took the rail. 2 nights in Barcelona not enough. Really nice place. Did hop off on bus again. Dinner at Flamenco Cordobes, an awesome show on La Rambla. Hotel 1898 is awesome.

9/7 cruise time.... This cruise was awesome 12 days is just perfect 7 too short, 14 too long. Island Princess mids ize by today standards, with impeccable service. I am now a cruise snob as it is only suites for me!!! Although very pricey, the extra room is crucial!!! They treat you like gold, with many upgrades and perks including free room service (crucial on those 7 am port days with early excursions...

Won't bore all with review of every port. We did a mix of Princess tours, private tours and self exploration. The Todd and Carol self exploration of Venice was quite an experience. We missed the last Vaporetta (water bus-publix at midnite on the overnight. Our waiter called us a water taxi and he escorted us to the pick up at the Accademia Bridge. This was right out of a James Bond movie!!!

Speaking of Bond, we visited the Amalfi Coast Highway (opening chase from Quantum of Solace). We also saw the little island from World is not Enough, where Bond shoot sthe girl then jumps on the submarine to save all of Istanbul and Denise Richards.

Dropped some coin on a new dining set from Ceramic factory in Poisatano and a new rug... Of course it's pricey but just gorgeous.

Anyway, It was a great trip....but glad to be home... will postthe link to pix when they finish uploading...

good afternoon

Pix are uploaded...

As Terrell Owens said...

"Bring your popcorn...." Enjoy

Puck....I thought you said you had a brand new camera for the trip. You must have been disappointed after seeing the effects of lens aberration on the background. :D

good evening...

Fastr...

just learning how to use that new camera.... it's really hard to get good pix, eliminate the other people in the pix while walking and keeping up on tour...

digital photography class is on my bucket list...For this trip, just used auto mode and a 14-150 zoom...

I actually dropped 2 lbs on the trip!!!! Had too much vino, but no snacking between meals and tons of walking and daily workout... "ran the steps" on the cruise 4-5 times each day..took the elevator to deck 5, ran up to 14 and repeated times 4-5 daily... there were other nuts doing it with me...

Best Part of trip...the cable TV played "Love Boat " reruns , non-stop. Nice to get acquainted with Capt Stubing, Doc, Gopher, Julie, Isaac again. Then they showed the episodes when Vicki and Charro came aboard!!!

Watched these episodes during the minimal down time...

Puck,
Do you remember your room number at the Champs ? Did you have a balcony in back or a view of the "la tour Eiffel" in front ?
Thanks !

Agree. The courtyard view was nice. We ended up in room 721 with the same view. I liked it as it was quiet and we could see Sacre Coeur one way, Notre Dame and the tippy-top of the Eiffel Tower in the other direction.

Victor at the front desk made it happen. He was so very nice.

We did not have the breakfast buffet at the restaurant there as we're not Gold or Platinum. We ate at "Paul's" or "Pomme" close by. Croissants and café au lait.

Still enjoying your photos. Merci !

Glad you had a great time- gorgeous pics! Love some details about the cruise. Thinking about one in the next year or two (although DH really wants to do a river cruise).

Kinda like the idea of a pre-holiday vacation (although I kinda need a post-Holiday one) :) For those who celebrate, a Happy and Healthy New Year to all!!
