Pros
* Nobody has coughed or sneezed on me since this started
* Nobody has cornered me on my dog walks when I've tried to avoid people
* I haven't had anyone honk and me and yell at me that they like my dogs when walking my dogs
* No one has body brushed me
* Nobody has tried to cut me in line
* I get to see/talk to my kids more often online
* When I'm in a meeting online, I can turn the screen dark, turn the sound up and leave the room- even took a nap once
* I have learned that pulling weeds by hand is very therapeutic for me
* Saving lots of money on gasoline
* Lots of quality time with my dogs

Cons
* My butt hurts from sitting in front of Zoom meetings every day
* My lower back is reminding me that I need an office chair
* I feel like I am inside a lot more

Overall, I am fan and I hope that people continue to social distance after this passes.

I retired a week ago, and have been self-quarantining since. Only left home one time for a short run to the grocery store. What I've learned:

Pros -
-- I like the quiet time when nobody is around
-- I don't have nearly the email to answer every day
-- I can eat lunch without fighting coworkers for access to the microwave
-- My sleeping schedule is slowly adjusting to more normal times

Cons -
-- I have a mountain of projects to do, but no sense of urgency to get them done
-- Staying home all day is frustrating. I might go sit in the car just for old times' sake
-- I really miss going to the gym
-- Daytime TV sucks

When this is over, I will spend more time away from home, enjoying my town. Social distancing is good, but better when it's voluntary

Great list! I too love weeding by hand, plus it looks great when done.

Never heard it called 'body brushing' lol. If i see likely contact coming i put my left arm across my body, palm on my right shoulder, that way if they hit it's my boney left elbow they get.

I retired 8 years ago. The office worker back issue is a big one. I had an ergonomic chair and a sit-stand desk the last ten years. Solved my issues. Plus our health plan paid twice monthly physio, chiropractor, RMT to keep the back, shoulders, etc flexible. I do alot of stretching also... you can find the basic exercises online... very important to stretch properly!

I was close to ordering a sit-stand desk, but since our income is taking a hit and we don't know what the future holds for us and our business right now, I am not spending money on anything that I consider "extra." If I knew for sure that I'd be doing stuff on the computer from home for 3 months, it would be a different story. For now, I am just turning my screen black and walking around as much as possible.

We're now calling it "physical distancing", rather than "social distancing". The government and public health officials felt the message was confusing as to what "social distancing" actually means. 2 metres of physical space!

Too early yet to go out in the garden, so getting lots of "inside" projects done and planning for "outside" projects. Both of us are knocking things off the to-do list at a record clip. So self-isolation is great in that respect. The harder part will be if this goes on for months rather than weeks! :ponder:

I see it as a little different. Social distancing means be separated from friends, strangers and relatives, by 6 ft. Physical distancing not only includes the people listed under "social" but also spouses, partners in the same household.

right, I don't think state governments want you to stay 6 ft. away from your spouse

Coronavirus and the Isolation Paradox

From The New York Times: “A paradox of this moment is that while social distancing is required to contain the spread of the coronavirus, it may also contribute to poor health in the long run. So while physical isolation will be required for many Americans who have Covid-19 or have been exposed to it, it’s important that we don’t let such measures cause social and emotional isolation, too.

The Health Resources and Services Administration cautions that loneliness can be as damaging to health as smoking 15 cigarettes a day. Feelings of isolation and loneliness can increase the likelihood of depression, high blood pressure, and death from heart disease. They can also affect the immune system’s ability to fight infection — a fact that’s especially relevant during a pandemic. Studies have shown that loneliness can activate our fight-or-flight function, causing chronic inflammation and reducing the body’s ability to defend itself from viruses.”

I have come to realize that half the stress with my husband has been getting him ready in time for events. With absolutely nothing to go to, lots of stress relief here.

That picture of the neighbors could have legit been taken in our neighborhood on Saturday. It was such a beautiful day, and we have a high amount of social capital (we all know each other,) but we were all very good to 1) bring our own food and bev and 2) set up at least six feet away, plus elevation (some at street level, some up on a porch a flight of steps above.)

I am thinking of getting my pants and shirt that I used when I fix the tractors fuel, oil, hydraulics lines and cars and wearing it full time. That will keep people at least 6 feet from me.
