So i was skimming the RCI Charts today, it appears that if i deposit both sides of my Lock Off at Patriots Place today, i get 25TPU for one Side and 26 TPU for the other....so as of today, if i count my MF & RCI Membership Fee, my TPU's cost is $17.75 per TPU, not great, but not horrible

BUT, i am able to exchange into a 2br at Patriots Place, the same week as i'd be depositing for 24 TPU, including the Exchange fee and my Per TPU cost equals $605(not a great deal, but not bad) and i end up with an extra 27 TPU's

I'm pretty happy with the new TPU system....Does anyone else use RCI to trade back into their home resort/Fixed week?

Ride - you are learning WHY you should continue to read here. Lockouts are great for exactly this reason. The TPU credits can be used both to get several weeks or to get a super big unit or a special trip using MORE TPUs than you might get for 1 years worth of TPUs. :)

The TPU system is a good one IMO. There was always a value being assigned to weeks but it was unknown to owners. Now it's in the open & we can make sure we get the best value from our weeks. It is about the only good thing that came out of the RCI class action lawsuit fiasco. Overall that "settlement" is extremely bad for members/owners.

I've done it a couple times (although once I ended up cancelling because I found a better exchange), but it takes a pretty big difference between the points you receive and the points you use to offset the exchange fees (which you wouldn't have if you just used your week).

I just returned from Palace View in Branson, where I got an off-season 2BR unit for 9 TPU. My 2BR side of my lockout gets 29 TPU when I deposit a prime week.

Previously, I had used the 1BR side of a Summer Bay lockout to exchange into a full 3BR Summer Bay lockout. Like I said, though, a better exchange came through so I used vacation protection to cancel it.

When you're depositing from a good season and exchanging for an off season (our favorite time to travel), it can be a good deal. When you're depositing a week and exchanging for the same week, it's seldom a good deal. While there are exceptions (and some members will undoubtedly bring those up to prove that RCI is evil), the TPU received and used for most intervals are usually pretty close.

Was that before or after the TPU system? Can I exchange a one bedroom at SB for a bigger accomodation under the current TPU system?

I can't remember if it was before or after, but I think it was before.

The trick would be depositing a high value (peak season) week and exchanging for an off season week. There's usually much more variation based on SEASON than there is on SIZE. For instance, for some resorts the TPU required based on season might vary from 10 to 30, while the TPU required for different sizes might only vary by 2-5. For instance, you could get 25 TPU for depositing a peak Studio and exchange into an off season 3BR using just 12 TPU.

Another example is that my 2BR studio lock off at FLBR has a TPU value of 21 for the studio lock off. I can currently exchange that studio for a large 1 BR unit the week before the week I already own and will be staying in to extend my vacation to two weeks.

It makes perfect sense to deposit your lock off and use for an additional week in the same resort to extend a vacation in a unit larger then the one you are currently depositing when available.

Using RCI, I deposited my 2012 studio lock off week many, many months ago for a 2 BR and 2 Bath unit in St. Pete's Beach. It works for the same resort and of course other resorts.

I am a big fan of the TPU system.

I am extremely happy with the TPU system..... I can get "MORE" for my deposit (and they are NOT Orlando) than it would cost to book it.......High demand time. Will admit -I don't deposit because I use it !

I like knowing what I will get, and being able to see what it will take. I got soooo frustrated with the old system. Now I can see that certain units were 1 - 2 TPUs short, and the week I would use was worth double what I needed......I now get weeks of vacations.

:cheer:

(and yes I am waiting for the "RCI in Evil" posts - been 2 whole days) :hysterical:

Trade to Upgrade at Home Resort

I own a studio at Hacienda Del Mar in Cabo. I got it for free on this very website...
I exchanged the Studio for a 2 BR for Spring Break Week
Could I have gotten a 2BR for free maybee. It was easy to convience the wife into a $540 MF for a studio. The exchange fees are well... I dont count that :).........
