so i got a new mother board to speed up my machine. I get everything switched over and plugged in the older IDE hard Drive to port on mother board along with new sata drive and pushed the start button.

all was good it seems and i get the windows screen that says. the machine was not shut down properly and gives the choices of booting in Safe mode,, safe mode with networking, safe mode with something else or normal..

I highlighted normal pushed enter and here we go.. couple second later we are back to the screen i describe above .. so i tried safe mode..

start getting files loading i see flashing across the screen and then it stops goes through restart procedure it seem and goes back to first screen.. windows was not shut down properly screen..

i unplugged sata drive on both machine and get same issue..

i tried it in my wife machine and same issue..

anyone have a clue how to fix this.??

tried every option and nothing.

Switched out your motherboard to speed up your PC? Not many people do this anymore, especially with the low cost of hardware. Maybe it's time to buy something new. Those motherboards have so many different kinds and versions of chipsets and firmware, I'm not sure where to start. Good luck though!

thought about that as well. MB, ram and HD was about the same cost and i get better, faster stuff..

the package deals are nice for getting a new computer but i don't need all that..
now just trying to figure out why the new mb and old hard drive don't play nice.

You will probably have to reinstall windows from scratch. The original install was tied to specicif design parameters of the previous processor etc.

Check the BIOS of the new motherboard to see if all components are properly configured. Notably, check the hard drive type - if your primary drive is IDE and the BIOS is looking for SATA, that could do it. If all is good try reinstalling Windows overtop of itself on the primary drive. It should fix any missing files without hurting your data.

Good luck!

I agree with Kal. Reinstall windows/boot on the new hard drive, with the old drive as a slave for data only.

thanks for the info.. I might give that a try.. I have some programs that are no longer in existance and wanted to keep them..
was going to petition the new drive with both win 7 and xp so i could switch back and forth as needed.

might give that re install win xp with HD hooked to new MB and see what happens.
hopefully it works...

That was a significant hardware change. I would install windows to the new HD and use the old drive as a data drive.

If youre still having problems when you install to the new drive, then you have a bad component, and you'll have fun sorting out which one it is. :)
