The artist known as Prince passed this morning. His private jet made an emergency stop last week, yet he played a concert the next night, reassuring fans that he was battling the flu. R.I.P.

I'm so sad to read this. He was someone I had always wanted to see live and never did.

Sad. I liked him very much.

They're discussing it on CNBC on "Squawk", of all programs, as I write this. Jon Najarian went to high school with Prince and graduated with him. He shared that Prince would play at school assemblies. How cool is that ?

I saw Prince get booed off the stage when he opened for the Rolling Stones in the early '80s. This was an outdoor concert in the Los Angeles area. Now that I think about it, I think that was the last rock concert I ever attended.

To see him perform "Let's Go Crazy" on stage was a masterpiece. I believe he was a musical genius, and from all accounts, gave back to his community.

RIP.

He was influential -- no doubt, but was he really one of the greatest musical artists?
It seems his peers think he ranks up there.

In 2011, Rolling Stone produced a list of the 100 greatest based on a survey of 55 musicians in the business... Prince was placed at #27... The survey may be a bit dated now, but it holds up.

Eric Clapton was asked, "What's it like to be the best guitarist on the planet?" He replied, "I don't know, ask Prince"

RIP Prince

Snopes is indicating that this is false. That quote was never made, at least not by Clapton about Prince.

He once listed "Purple Rain" as #8 in a list of '8' favorites. -- www.whereseric.com

Apparently Clapton's favorite guitar solo was by Duane Allman in Wilson Pickett's version of "Hey Jude." “I drove home and called Atlantic Records immediately,” Clapton said. “To this day, I've never heard better rock guitar playing on an R&B record. It's the best.”
