Just bought a 2BR 1-52 Annual at SDO for $1035. That's less than a 1BR Preminum I was considering sold for in mid-November. Seems like a screaming deal to me, but it will be interesting to see how much lower they go.

That's a screamin' deal. Prices earlier in the year were $5000 for an annual 2 BD 1-52. I bought my EOY 2 BD for waaaaay more than you paid for your EY  . Oh well, we can only hope that eventually the prices tick back up once the economy recovers.

Was this an ebay deal? Does that include closing costs, and does it have 09 occupancy?

It was an ebay auction. Closing costs add another $400, but it does have 09 occupancy. I'm happy to have it at this price, but like you I do hope the eonomy gets better... I'd pay a few dollars more that that.

MF is $309/yr (granted $618/use)
and just traded it for a 1 bedroom 2009 (week 51) at Marriott Grand Residences in Lake Tahoe..... which is a ski week.....
crazy! good trade value, I would say!

Hi, first time poster but I've been reading, learning a lot from the board for a little while now. I wish I would have found this place when I first purchased. I've owned a 1BR SVV (bella) for 5 or so years now and have thought the trade value wasn't very good. For instance I can only see a Mariott studio for two weeks in Dec09 then nothing until April 2010.

I was talking to the folks over at II and they said that was just the nature of owning in Orlando and with the weeks that Sheraton deposited for me (week 17). My family has grown since we bought the TS, now we are interested in two bedroom places. II says that I need to deposit a 2BR resort to really get any shot at getting a decent trade for a different 2BR, which makes sense to me but I wanted to see if there was any truth to that.

So now we are thinking about buying a 2BD EOY an SDO resale sometime next year. Will my trading power increase a decent amount, or am I setting my hopes to high? I don't expect to get into the premium resorts in holiday weeks, but right now I have a hard time finding anything in-season.
Thanks for any advice,
Tim

Welcome to TUG! :hi:

With an ongoing request with II you have to deposit a 2 bdm., to exchange into a 2 bdm., so owning a 2 bdm. should help.

You mentioned trying to exchange for high season weeks. Starwood deposits weeks from some very nice resorts, but mostly off-season. Specifically where do you want to go and when?

Do you know about the Starwood 3-day priority for other Starwood resorts with II? Starwood owners can see and reserve Starwood deposits 3 days before owners from other resorts. Also - with online exchanges, you can often reserve a 2 bdm. with a 1 bdm. deposit. For more info. see the article in Owner Resources at the top of the page listed under "Exchanging."

We have a very active Sightings Board on TUG where owners post their sightings on II (what they can "see" with their Starwood resorts for instant exchange.) It's right below the Lounge Board. You can scroll back through the posts, or use the search function "Search this Forum" to search for specific resorts by name, to see what kind of exchange power other Starwood owners/resorts have.

Thanks for the pointers Denise. I read about the 3 day priority with II, I assume that means I need to search every day or so for the locations I'm interested in?
We don't have anything planned yet for our 2009 week, which is probably another part of the problem. I seems that we really should be planning a year out.

I would: 1) put in an on-going request, 2) Search II often 3) Read the TUG Sightings board every day - good sightings are usually posted.

Yes, you do need to plan a year out for the best results.

Good luck! :hi:

A couple of points:

You will not "see" many Marriott weeks no matter what. Marriott has a 23 day owner exclusive with I.I. The most desirable Marriott deposits are claimed by Marriott owners within those 23 days. The occasional exception leaks out, but mostly off season and/or studio units.

If your intention is to trade frequently from a Orlando home resort, and want exchange clout, you will be best served by buying a Marriott in Orlando. Grande Vista units have lockouts.

If you are sold on Starwood VO, buy a Voluntary resort so you do not encounter the substitution problem you experienced with SVV Bella.

Actually Orlando would be the last place I'd buy again. I'm in CA so I'd prefer something that was closer. I'll look into Mariott, thanks again.
