I logged in tonight and found this offer staring me in the face.

Owner Exclusive: 50% Off At 35 Resorts

For a limited time, celebrate the end of 2024 with 50% savings when you book by 12/6/24 and travel by 1/31/25. Hurry — this offer won’t last long.

There are a lot of resorts listed. Obviously many folks (like me) have used all or almost of our points. But if you have some points left, it's worth looking over. Even if you have to rent some points to complete a reservation this could be a very great deal. If you have a need that fits within this window. There aren't a lot of details listed. I tried a trial booking and it didn't tell me if i needed to use a Housekeeping Credit before I would have to confirm the booking. I don't have any HK's left so that would increase the cost if I need one, although I do have a few points left that I will send to RCI if I can't use them.

So I couldn't find a way to make this work for me, but perhaps you can.

It might make one wonder why they purchased developer VIP status (sorry, tongue in cheek).

It's been awhile since we've seen discounts, hopefully some can enjoy!

Be aware, some of the resorts in scope, the discounts do not apply on Friday or Saturday. It's in the fine print.

I booked a week at Ocean Blvd in January for 22,000 points, hard to beat that.

This offer stacks with “Bonus time.” You can get some screaming hot deals in the next 14 days in this manner.

I wrote in the first post in this thread that I couldn't make this work for me but I was wrong. I happen to be traveling from the northeast to my humble Florida winter abode. I stopped for 4 days in Kentucky to spend Thanksgiving with my niece, then traveled down to Wyndham Nashville which I love for 4 days, and later this morning I'll leave for 4 days at Wyn Panama City Beach. I had booked 4 nights in Daytona Beach (non Wyndham) after that but cancelled that booking because the temperature in Florida has been on the chilly side, so I decided to just go home. Well as of today it seems that Daytona will be in the 70's for at least the next few days after leaving PCB so I went onto the Wyndham website and this is what I found.

I have no Housekeeping Credits left for this year, and only a few points. Using the new Bonus Time feature combined with the 50% off points reservations I was able to book a 1 Bedroom Deluxe at Ocean Walk for 4 nights (Monday thru Thursday) for a total of $295 including $175 for a Housekeeping Credit.

That's $73.75 per night and pretty hard to beat. For comparison, the Motel 6 On International Speedway Blvd. would be $70.86 for their cheapest rate. I'm no snob, I've stayed at plenty of Motel 6 places in my younger years, but it's simply a point of reference.

As "Fido" posted above, you can get a screaming hot deal if you're in position to take advantage of these offers.

Definitely a great example of how bonus time can be well leveraged if/when you can stack deals on top of the points discounts. Hopefully Wyndham continues to offer points discounts moving forward - I know they periodically wax and wane on the points discounts, but it's nice to know that we can all take advantage of some well discounted bonus time rates whenever these types of point discounts are in play for last minute reservations.

I think that it is a perfect example as to why you don't buy from the developer. If everyone is Platinum then NO ONE is platinum.

This seems to be the path to alienate the owners who spent money directly with Wyndham. Or isn't this really just part of the agenda that started a few years ago?

It's been a long time since Wyndham have had any discounted stays, and even longer since it was 50%.

This sale is extremely limited in scope and date ranges and only running for what, 4 days? And mostly at resorts offered are WAY out of season where they obviously want occupancy. I looked through it extensively and at a lot of the resorts offered, there isn't even much availability. I was able to pick up a quick week.

Seems kind of elitist to be scoffing at Wyndham for offering discounts to non-VIP's. Yeah, we get it, a lot of you overpaid for your Platinum VIP.

I think that it is not hard to see the difference between having a limited discount (with exclusions on certain unit types or weekends at some resorts) at 35 resorts during what is quiet or value season at the majority of them that's available for 4 days, and having an across the board discount on all units and at all Club Wyndham resorts available 365 days a year.

I don't buy from the developer, but this isn't one of the reasons.

Occupancy in December at Midtown 45, Glacier Canyon, Bonnet Creek and Great Smokies Lodge are not way out of season. These locations will not only book, they will overbook. And many of the resorts are during the owner priority window so they know full well that occupancy is not a problem.

And I think that they had 50% discounts for Memorial weekend, again during owner priority. Now are they finding that they "may" be overreaching on the priority list? Maybe. Or is it an attempt to frustrate older owners (think unlimited housekeeping) to exit.

And I'm pretty sure that I'm not platinum.

Weeks 1-4 are quiet season at both Sevierville resorts, 48-50 are high, for whatever reason. Regardless, having been to the area many times going back 30 years (outside of timeshare ownership), it's pretty much a ghost town most of December, all of January and February.

Pretty much everywhere weeks 51/52 are high or prime

The Florida resorts have capacity, as I just looked and had no issue booking inside the discount window. Even though I booked Myrtle beach week 3, I also booked a studio at Ocean Walk, hoping for an upgrade at 30 days. If I don't get it, I will cancel and go to MB. All the places I looked had capacity.

Outside of Week 51, which i'm sure is busy everywhere, this is this is dead season except at skiing resorts, which were not in scope for this sale. And my results when trying to book bares this out.

A sale launched 12/4 for travel all of December and January really won't have much impact on people's travel plans for Christmas, those plans were made months ago. And January being cold everywhere but Florida, probably will not influence a huge number. I'm thankful they do this every once in a while. Again, I don't see the outrage here.

If this week one can still book something in the next 60 days at any resort it is by definition not high demand time.

It can also be true that buying from the developer in order to get VIP status is not a wise financial decision.

I made a spreadsheet to analyze.
20 out of 35 resorts have no owner priority during the 9-week period in question. Of the 15 that have some owner priority weeks, 9 of those only have 11 days of owner priority during Christmas-New Year's, and two others (Glacier Canyon and Midtown 45) only have those holidays plus weekends in December. Two more (I'll let you guess which two) only have owner priority during the inauguration. The most owner priority time of any resort was surprisingly 4.5 weeks at Sedona, which TIL has owner priority for the entire fall, September through December 31.

In terms of points seasons, here the percentage of total weeks available during each season:
1733429891062.png

This doesn't tell the entire story, though. Remember that not all resorts have a quiet season - in fact, only 15 out of the 35 of the resorts offered even have a quiet season. So the fact that 21% of the weeks offered in this 9-week discount period are quiet season weeks shows how much this promotion skews toward the off-season.
In fact, I just went back and manually added up what I'm calling the "lowest season" weeks at a resort, since some resorts offer four seasons, some three, some two, and some only one. The result:
1733430564190.png

So over half of the weeks offered during this promotion are the lowest season at a given resort. If you think I'm cheating by including Midtown, Bali Hai, and Canterbury in there (which are all prime all the time), if I remove them from that calculation it's still 42.9% of weeks that are the lowest existing season at a resort.

So, be outraged or not, but those are the stats.

You think they want to intentionally alienate their best customers?
