One good thing about using DC points is to be able to reserve a view category. However, we all know there are good and bad views within a view category. I have had 3 DC trades and have been happy with the room assignments, not always so with II trades.
Do you think this is just my good luck so far with a small sample size, or do you think being Premier Plus has helped me in getting a better room assignment ? What has been the experience of others so far?

I was told that room assignment priority for DC points is the same as a single week owner staying at their home resort. Only multi-week owners receive higher priority. Therefore, DC booked reservations should receive good views within the category.

I'm a multi-week owner at both resorts that I own. I'm also Premiere Plus. I've always been assigned great rooms at both resorts under the legacy system. This year will actually be the first that I've stayed at both resorts using DC points. I'll let you know what if any difference there is in room assignment.

You should probably have your VOA add that note or call the resort two weeks out and let them know. I usually say, "Please make note that I am a Marriott multi-week owner." without getting into which resorts I own.

I am a multi-week owner and platinum plus points member. I own an island/garden view at the Waiohai but used points last year to book an ocean view instead.

The first unit they gave us was, in my mind, a very poor ocean view (which is why I did not buy ocean view in the first place).

However, when I called the front desk and told them it was unacceptable (nicely, of course!) they did not argue and switched us to an ocean view that was quite nice.

So, I think they do try to do their best for owners, weeks or points, and I think the higher status just might help!!

We converted one Week last year and used some of the Points to exchange into the other resort we own. Both of them use a Priority Placement System that rotates owners between the "best" and "worst" available units in the view that was purchased - one stay in a high floor/good view, next in a low floor/lesser view ... During that Points stay we were placed in a low floor/lesser view, which is the type we were scheduled for on our next owner's week stay, but I never did find out if they were following that schedule despite us being there on a DC exchange or if they placed us as DC exchangers after owners were given the better units.

Bob, we're like you - multi-week owners, Prem Plus in the DC, Plat for Marriott Rewards ... and they know all that. It won't surprise me if I never figure out all the finer points of unit placement.

One clarification is that I don't know whether there is a view priority distinction between using trust points vs exchange points. There is a possibility that this applies only when using trust points, since those are 'owned' weeks. Logically, I would expect exchange points guests to receive lower view priority to single week home resort owners.

One thing to keep in mind is that Oceana Palms has more limited available units for each check-in day due to its heavy occupancy of short stayers. When we checked in on a Saturday in November, only two units were becoming open on that day. All others were occupied for short weekend or multi-week stays. I think this will become a greater problem at other resorts as more people use DC points for short or extended trips.
