Just had a company ask me to sign a limited power of attorney for a unit I purchased on ebay. Never been asked to do that before. Anybody else have experience with that. My first thought is no way, shouldn't be necessary. Am i just being naive?

You don't have to sign on it, just ignore.
As an owner, I would not give my right to vote about HOA related thing to closing co. They try to get power to control HOA.
I purchased TS from ebay, and timeshare closing services sent that limited POA form after closing was done. I didn't sign on it, just ignored it.
