Now that counties and states are starting to re-open, I think it would be interesting to have a thread where we can post our experience with re-openings in our area. I am curious how many people will start going out to restaurants, hair salons, offices, gyms, dentists, pet grooming, etc. that have been closed during the SIP/SAH. I don’t want this thread to become contentious or political. I just want to hear about how businesses and individuals are handling the new normal and how well is seems to be working. Also, what kind of guidelines have these businesses put in place to try to keep people safe.

In Placer County (a more rural area of California that includes Lake Tahoe), we are allowed to start re-opening restaurants and other businesses this week with very strict guidelines. The state of California has allowed counties with lower rates of cases and deaths to start to re-open as part of Phase 2. Our country club will be re-opening the restaurant for dine-in service on Monday and it will be re-opening the gym with a 6-person limit by reservation only and a 50 minute time limit per person on using the gym. I am super excited that pet grooming services will start re-opening up in our area soon.

Here are some of the guidelines for businesses re-opening in California:

We're still pretty shut down here in New Mexico. As of today the only things open are retail and churches, with 25% of fire code capacity. There are also other restrictions in place. Still no dine-in, salons, barber and gyms. And there are three counties that are excluded as they have a much higher rate. They are only open for curbside delivery.

In MO-particularly here in the SW corner: allowed to start dine-in with reduced capacity 25% (indoor and outdoor), salons etc allowed to reopen. The states guidelines are more vague than individual counties, which is fine. Our county health department is stricter than the state guidelines ;movie theaters etc technically can reopen, but the county says no, requiring masks where social distancing isn't possible (salons for example), though the state is just "strongly recommending" them. In place through end of May for phase one. Traffic etc has increased from what I can tell-I frankly haven't been out much even with the SIP order expired. I do need new walking shoes desperately and also need to get into eye doctor (he extended my contact prescription so I at least have another month).

Just opened the beach parking lots at 50% here in SoCal yesterday, people were parking on the streets nearby and walking to the beach before. Cops were only shooing people along to keep moving, no sunbathing. Plenty of surfers out.

I’ll be taking a ride down later to check it out and watch a sunset, grab some take out. Its a beautiful beach day.

I’ll probably ride my bike there Monday, and have a golf tee time on Thursday. Outdoor life is gradually returning.

No dine in restaurants or bars that I am aware of.

Here is a good summary article on California with color coded maps by county and by type of opening by LA Times. (hope this is not paywalled):

Hiking trails and more beaches are opened here (San Diego, CA). Some parking lots are open with half of the spaces blocked off. There are still some parking lots that are completely closed. I've seen lots full at the half capacity mark.

I went to the beach in Del Mar a couple days ago. It was bustling. I found a nice free for 2 hour parking space on the street and after my walk on the beach, picked up to go lunch. Lots of people milling all over the beach and the streets. About half of the restaurants were open for take out and I saw a couple clothing stores open for curbside pickup. Wine, beer and cocktails available in to go containers from restaurants/bars, but I don't know where people are allowed to drink those.

After 40+ years of T/S ownership, I am no longer "an owner"
Wisconsin is in a bit of turmoil since our State Supreme Court (on Wednesday) overturned the governor's extension of "Safer At Home" through Memorial Day. Immediately there after, some local counties/cities put in place their own, mostly following the state's extension. The next day (Friday) the state's attorney general issued an interim opinion which resulted in several of the local mandates being immediately rescinded.

Our bowling centers are starting to reopen, as they are ready to do so responsibly. Here is one such center's story here that was featured on Fox News yesterday afternoon.

In Florida we are now in full phase I, but counties can have additional restrictions as deemed necessary. (E.G. the Keys are not allowing visitors yet). Lots of masks and distancing. The Governor decided to do partial steps and so far so good. Numbers have not started going up.

I wonder if there is some aspect related to combination of the warm weather AND the UV light that is naturally emitted by the sun, that does weaken or kill the virus. We are, after all, the Sunshine state. :cheer:

I'm in Santa Clara County in California.. For those not knowing where that is think San Jose and a little North.
Our county is still staying pretty much shut down which I understand as we were one of the hot zones. Just seems weird that counties surrounding us are opening up. I know many that will go to the surrounding areas to eat, etc. We already have few decent restaurants and can't imagine how many will need to go out of business.
The only bright lights I see are hopefully the traffic will become manageable when things do open (people keep working at home) but I don't see it happening because those that do go to work say in San Francisco area will all drive instead of taking public transportation.
Hopefully with the loss of some of the restaurants the landlords will lower rent/leases to attract new tenants or even to hold on to their current ones.

Pole dancing and hand sanitizer: Wyoming strip club reopens with 'masks on, clothes off' party

It's like any other night at this rural strip club on the Colorado-Wyoming border, with one notable exception: While the dancers are all wearing barely-there outfits, every one of them is wearing a mask.

Regardless of your opinion of this type of adult entertainment, you must admire the ingenuity.

My denominational leadership has recommended (though they can't mandate) to congregations that we continue meeting and worshiping virtually through May 2021. I expect my congregation will follow that recommendation.

We were the county that opened up first in SC, ahead of the bordering NC county. NC flocked here without masks on. That NC counties cases have increased substantially within the last few day which makes me think my county will follow shortly with many more cases.

2 Zip codes near me had highest Covid in our state-1000 cases between them, with our zip code about 5 miles away having 350 cases. Wegmans in that area was reportedly packed yesterday with few wearing masks. We're not even "reopening" for another 2 weeks.

It can now be fashion statement, so positive side benefit.

I decided to do a Walmart and Target run yesterday around 2pm but know that in my direct area things would be crazy so I headed about 35 minutes North West to Westminster, MD and both stores were about as busy as a typical Tuesday at 10am in my area but with twice the staff. Walmart did have there one way aisles and 85% followed the rules but since many aisles were completely empty there were those that were slipping in the wrong way. I even found equate flushable wipes which our store has been out of for the last 2 months.

Ontario and other Canadian provinces are starting a step process :

1) provincial parks - local parks - federal parks are part of this step . Social distancing rules in place .
some start this Tuesday ( May 18 ) after the Victoria Day Weekend .

2 ) some retail & business’s that could not do curbside — can start to allow people to enter - under safe conditions ( generally a mixture of distance and masks ) ( no Hair cutting etc yet )

The border remains closed to non essential travel .
Right now - reopening the border to tourism is seen as more of a risk than a benefit by Canada’s federal and
provincial leaderships as well as most residents .

Ohio is open for retail, barbers, salons, mfg, distribution and some outdoor dining. It’s hit or miss if an individual business opens when allowed. Indoor dining and child care next week. I’ve noticed that major chain restaurants and stores have not opened their patios or shopping while locals mostly have. I guess the chains are being given direction by HQ who may be clueless about local conditions one way or the other. Cincinnati bars are having some friction with the city over “overcrowding” but I attribute that to growing pains.

As barbers opened Friday, I’ve been checking about a haircut. Every place I checked had waits of at least 90 minutes. I’ll see what happens during the work week starts.

Cheers

Prior to the virus I normally was a store shopper dinner time as the parking lots and stores were empty. I dislike shopping in crowds. Yesterday I went to pick up a curb side grocery order dinner time. I was taken aback how many cars were in the shopping lot that used to be empty during this time. It was filled. Stores Homegoods, tj max , Burlington, Ross just to name a few of the store in this shopping center.

Florida starts opening up the non essentials on 5/18. I suspect problems with people not wearing masks and being too close together. Disney Springs starts to open 5/20, no decision on the parks yet.

I just learned that the dog groomer attached to a pet store in my area has been open all along because the pet store was considered essential business. That's what I get for assuming. :wall:

They said grooming at some stores were closed down because a few nosy neighbors complained. If there were no complaints they stayed open - no one is complaining in our area.

Hooray my dog can get a haircut! Now looking forward to when I can get my own haircut :)
