I have noticed some of you pool all of your points and then pull from the pool to make reservations. I am trying to understand how this works. I read the statement below on the Wyndham website and I don't understand how this works.

Is it possible that you will not have points to use? My use years end in June (189K) and September(154K). Should I not pool my points?

"Availability of Pool Credits depends upon points placed in the pool by other Members with the same Use Year End Date of the year you wish to use your credits".
What happens if you need to cancell a reservation using pooled points?

Thank you for all comments and suggestions in advance.

Wyndham has they charge to pool each use year.

If you cancel the points are returned to the current use year.

It is possible the points credit pool runs dry. Its possible a lot of points have been pooled by Wyndham owners since transferring of points has been stopped.

When you read the discussion of the points credit pool in the Wyndham directory and the Wyndham website, you might think that the only use of this tool is to take next years points you might not use and throw them into the future.

Here what it says on the website:

POINTS CREDIT POOL
What is it?
The Points Credit Pool is a feature that gives you the option to save (pool) your points, prior to yourUse Year Start Date, and have up to three (3) years to use them before they expire.

Tell me more
This is a great feature if you know in advance that you will not be able to use all or some of the points in your next Use Year. You can place your points in a credit pool, which takes them out of their assigned Use Year and makes them available as Pool Credits for three (3) years from the date you deposit them

Another way to use the pool is to take future years points and pull them into the present. Recently I had an unexpected need for points (my stepson announced he was getting married next year in Las Vegas) And all my 2012 points had been used for 2012 reservations....so I pooled 2013 points and used them for a Las Vegas reaervation...I also made an impulse buy and made a reservation for the tail end of this year

As it turned out I cancelled that late 2011 reservation made with pool points. and the points are now cancelled 2011 points that I must use or lose this year.

What wasnt 100% clear to me reading the website, became clear in practice

Pool credit points can be used from the day you put them into the pool, ie I used my 2013 points for reservations in 2011 and 2012. And I could use them for 2013 reservations too (if there were any left)...3 full years from the date that they go into the pool, in my case all the way into 2014.

Another benefit of the pool is that you dont small numbers of unused points at the end of a year that you cant find a use for, and be into the situation where you have to use or lose points. (unless you cancel like I did)

I see the pool as a rolling 3 years of points...always putting some in always taking some out.

There are limitations...Mother Wyndham dosent just give us benefits...She takes away too

• You can only use Pool Credits for resort reservations during the Standard Reservations and Express Reservations windows.ie no ARP
• Once you place your points in the pool, they are no longer eligible to be used for other options, like PlusPartners®, Cruising with CLUB WYNDHAM Plus, Converting Points to Maintenance Dollars, and Wyndham Rewards® Conversion Program

One (1) Housekeeping Credit for every 1,000 points placed in the pool will be deducted from your account. Additional Housekeeping Credits may be purchased as needed.

housekeeping confuses me Im not sure how that works

Oh!! there is a $39 fee to pool points

Remember that I am living on borrowed time, I havent paid for those 2013 points yet, but I will be using them early in 2012...If I want a vacation in 2013, Ill have to pool 2014 points...and so on

Ron,
The way to think of HKs is, back to FIXED WEEKS. Every time a FW unit changed over, housekeeping came in and reset the unit. That was budgeted as 52 times a year/once a week.

Along came the invention called POINTs. How does the HOA plan and pay for changeovers IF less than the budgetted 7 night stay. HKs! Based on unit size and that each occupancy has to be reset for the new guest, you are budgeted HKs based upon your points own (1 for each 1000UDI pts). If you book a 1 bdr for 7 nights, then you need 63HKs to reset the unit. There is a FIXED grid in the Wyndham Owners Manual for unit size and HKs need ... (st 28HKs, 1bdr 63HKs, 2bdr 77HKs, 3bdr 140HKs, 4bdr 154HKs). Even a 1 night stay, requires the entire unit to be reset. Every week (7 night stay) assumes that housekeeping comes in and cleans the unit;hence, a 8 night stay, required the immediate clean and the move out cleaning.

So, with point inflation at the newer resorts, you will most likely NOT run out of HKs if booking a 2bdr or small. If booking the older Wyndham resorts and mostly short stays, YOU will be paying for HKs.

Hope this helps.

PS Gold and Platinum VIPs do not pay for HKs or RTs. Regular VIPs get free RTs, but some years based on their vacation style, will get hit with HKs.

Linda

I think I get it when it comes to a year and that years points...But what happens with pooled points...Do housekeeping credits stay with the points. or do they stay in the year earned?

If I put 300 2012 points, and 300 2013 points and 300 2014 points in the points credit pool and I decide to use all these points in 2013.....Do I have 900 housekeeping credits to work with, or did I leave some behind in 2012

Newbie Question on Points Credit Pool and Housekeeping

I am confused on how the housekeeping credit works with the points credit pool. Reading the information about the points credit pool on Wyndham's website, you are charged 1 housekeeping credit per 1,000 points placed in the credit pool. My understanding is that you receive 1 housekeeping credit for every 1,000 points issued at the beginning of the use year.

Does Wyndham take all of the housekeeping credits away when points are pooled?

What actually happens? Does the housekeeping points transfer along with the points into the credit pool?

I know this is an old thread, but my question relates to the subject.

I want to pool my future points, but I do not want to lose the housekeeping credits.

That's weird how they word it; the HK credits don't disappear, they go into the pool along with your points and are used as needed. I have way more HK credits in the pool than points as a result.

The housekeeping credits go into the pool, along with the points.

Thanks for the replies, the wording was confusing. I wanted to make sure about the housekeeping points before placing the points into the credit pool.
