I know from posts here that a lot of you have tried Poke in Hawaii. I have a question on the sauce. I found Chef Choy's recipe online to make it, but the amount of sauce to fish seems very high. So how is the additional sauce used? Recipe is almost 3 parts liquid to 1 part fish. My other question is which do you all like better salmon, mahi mahi, snapper or tuna? His recipe calls for snapper but since I enjoy all fish was curious on which TUGGERS enjoy the most.

When we went to Da Poke Shack on the Big Island 2 weeks ago we tried a lot
of poke and my favorites were the tuna. They just melted, they were so fresh.
They didn't have a lot of extra sauce. There was just enough in the bottom of
the container to re-dip the fish into. I'm no sushi eater but Da Poke Shack made
me into a Poke eater.:D

Thank you.:) I really enjoy great fresh sushi and ceviche from the Caribbean. I want to try making the Poke at home to try it since we won't be in Hawaii to try it til Nov. 2012. Da Poke Shack is first on my list of places to try. I have ordered Sam Choy's Poke Cookbook but it won't arrive til next week.

Tuna! YUM!
We get 99% of our poke from the deli counters in the grocery stores in Hawaii. Wish we'd known about Da Poke Shack when we were on the BI last summer!

We love the poke at the Foodland on Maui. I've always had poke with tuna, so I cannot compare.

Foodland has a lot of great local snacks and meals to go in their deli section--we stopped there a few times for lunch or to take dinner back to the unit.

Went to local fish market today and bought the sushi grade tuna. I am going to try making Poke tomorrow. I have all the stuff now that Sam Choy's recipe calls for. I will let you know how it came out.:D
