Don't the points expire every year and u get new points in new year.

Is there a good reason to save and keep points than use the points for vacation as intended.

If there was a box for “borrow from 2026 points“, I would have checked that as well.

With HGVC I reverse the advice of Polonius - Neither a saver nor a banker be...do not forget...stay well in debt.

I have to admit, the borrowing of points goes against my psychology…I had to convince myself that it was the right way to go, and not have the feeling “omg, all of my 2025 points are gone, we won’t have any points to travel next year!”

That is the nice part about elite premier, you can save any amount any time for free so you don't worry about it. Non-EP folks should be in a borrowing mode to never deal with saving.

Taking vacations on time every year... 😺 Borrowing mode from next year is best use of timeshares

Agreed but when you have about 100k points, there can be years that you don't travel as much so having the ability to save anytime for free is a nice option.

I go back an forth between borrowing from next year to saving some points to next year. We do a mix of Timeshare (both HGV and MVC), and hotel stays. This year we did a couple weeks in Asia where we used up a lot of Hilton points to stay at a couple of Conrads. We also took friend's to stay with us at MVC resort, so borrowed next years point with that program. I ended up saving some of our HGV points to next year, but have already having planned booking that will consume all of our HGV points next year, and probably borrow some of the 2026 points.

We also use a lot of Hiltons, mainly in Europe, so less needs for HGVC properties. I think that trend will continue for us so having access to DEX EU helps with that and then use HH points. We don't convert to HH though. It is free to convert for EP members but the cost/pt doesn't necessarily make sense.

We had a small amount of 2024 points left over... but banked them in advance of expected Black Friday point sales... and now have a nice 3 night Elara booked at the end of JAN which was within about 150 points of what we banked. It worked out great for us... Generally, we use all our points and sometimes borrow.

we got free 2024 points with two deeds purchased this year so we had far more than we could use. in that context paying $139 to save 20,000 free points was a no brainer

I added some more points this year after our June vacation so we both borrowed and saved.

Yea, I have never converted my HGV or MVC points to the hotel programs. I earn my hotel points from travel or credit card spend.
