In what time frame do DC points expire?
Is it 1 or 2 years?
TIA

Legacy points expire on December 31st of that year, and they can be banked into the subsequent year (if the banking election is made on or before June 30).

So for 2012:

2012 Usage Year Points are good for reservations between 1/1/12 and 12/31/12.

At midnight on 12/31/12, the 2012 points expire.

On or before June 30, 2012, the owner can decide to bank the points into the following year, and the points now expire on 12/31/13 (at midnight).

If they've been banked into 2013, they can not be brought back to make a reservation in 2012 -- it's a permanent election.

I hope that helps!

Best,

Greg

Greg; did you forget to explain the importance of the 9/30/2012 date?

I know something is critical on that date, but I don't recall what it is...

I will lean on your knowledge.

I am not Greg, but I think I can anwer. In order to even be able to do anything with those 2012 points, you would have had to elect them by 9/30/2011.

TimeTraveler,

Dioxide is exactly right, and I apologize for the omission -- it is correct that in order to utilize 2012 points at all, the related legacy week needs to be redeemed by 9/30/11.

Practically speaking, the redemption will likely happen earlier, since you're probably trying to make a 2012 points reservation 10-12 months ahead of check-in, therefore the redemption most likely happens earlier than Sept 30 (ie, if you want a July 2012 reservation with points, you probably have redeemed in June or July 2011).

Good question and thanks!

Best,

Greg

Not sure it was an omission as the OP didn't ask about that. My assumption was that since they were asking, they must have already elected 2012 points.

They must be trying to say that they are good for Usage Year, plus an additional Year (if banked by June 30 of Usage Year).

So.....technically possible, but not automatic.

Good luck! and would love to hear any color on what was said in the presentation...

Greg

OK guys, I forgot to ask this at the presentation yesterday but let me run this by you. I have a plat week at Ocean Pointe. The Plat season expires at the end of April. If I don't reserve my week can I still elect it for DC points in May Or June and then roll it over before June 30 for the next year?

The presentation was interesting. I will make a separate thread about it when I get home. Nothing earth shaking but interesting because the guy was an owner.

If you transfer points from someone else for a particular year, are you still allowed to bank them, or borrow them?

Jim,

If it's May or June of 2012, and you didn't visit Ocean Pointe as of April 2012, then you've already missed your chance to elect your week for 2012 points.

However, if its' May or June of 2011, and you didn't get around to reserving a week thru April 2012, you still have until September 30, 2011 to decide to redeem your week for points.

I hope that helps, I look forward to hearing your thoughts on the presentation!

Best,

Greg

Jin,

No, once points are transferred, they must be utilized in their Usage Year. This is a difference from Disney, where transferred points can still be banked into the subsequent year.

Greg
