Is there a difference in renting legacy points vs destination points, or are they all the same. Does it affect when you go to make a reservation? Thank you for all your great info!

It shouldn't matter -- I've seen a (very) few number of instances where a reservation requiring Trust Points, but for the most part, it has not been an issue to use either Legacy Points (really called Elected Points) or Trust Points.
The one caveat I would make is that when I am renting points, if I am also using Elected Points from one of my weeks, I tend to prefer to rent Elected Points to make sure they are homogenous. I have seen a few instances where the system couldn't smoothly combine rented Trust Points with owned Elected Points, and it hiccupped (but I still got the reservation, just had some stray points I didn't expect).
