I've bought points protection for the first time for a New Years reservation in New Orleans. I glanced at the benefit page online but could not find the section that explains how to use the protection.
Do you have to call to cancel the reservation? Can you wait until day of check in, or does it need to be the day prior?

Thanks for the help Tuggers and Happy New Year.

You can cancel the reservation online, at any time, up until midnight eastern time the day of the reservation. You will lose the guest confirmation if you used one, but the points will credit back to your account. The message when you choose to cancel will indicate the points will be refunded (like any other refundable reservation, versus getting the message they will be forfeited).
