My wanta be daughter in law went to a Marriott presentation and the deal they gave her was $20K for 2,000 points. The salesperson said she could get into that resort every year. Im telling her not to do it but I was wondering what kind of unit would she get for her 2k. Can anyone tell me the schedule for points for that location. Thanks. I am trying to educate her on timeshares. I think timesharing will work good for her and my son and their family but I want her to do it right. I have plenty of timeshares and they can just use mine but I know at sometime she will want her own.

Depends upon what type of unit she wants, but 2,000 points will not come close to what is required for a 7 day stay in a 2 bedroom unit at the Maui Ocean Club. Our 2 bedroom unit in the older (hotel conversion) building requires over 5,000 points for a one week stay. Similar, but even higher point requirements, would be needed for a one week stay in a 2 bedroom unit in any of the other Marriott locations in the Hawaiian Islands.

Depends on season, size and view. The cheapest island view studio in the lowest season is 2,175 points for the week. The 3br OF in the peak season is 14,325 points for the week.

Your daughter would be paying a real premium for travel flexibility and if the idea is to travel to Maui points really is the worst cost option. She could buy a 2BDRM OV at the Maui Ocean Club for about $17k or less on the resale market and get way more value.
