According to a Wyndham rep, the ability for a Club Wyndham Member to purchase the point protection add on was taken away on June 15th. According to her, this option is no longer going to be offered. She did not believe that any official notification of the change had been released to inform members, but stated that owner service reps received a directive to stop offering that add on at the beginning of June- and that their ability to modify a reservation with that option was deleted from the system on the 15th.

I believe what the OP may be referring to is the ability to add PP to an existing reservation as opposed to a net new reservation. The new website currently does not provide any option to add PP to an existing reservation that doesn’t have PP already, and from what the OP is saying, owner care may no longer be able to do so as of June 15.

Was that Wyndham Rep a sales weasel in disguise? If so then everything that was said was either misleading, a half truth or an outright lie.

I'd sure be surprised if they did away with it. It's got to be a big money maker for them.

I tried it with reservations inside and outside 60 days from check-in -- there is no option to purchase point protection. I see it when I'm booking new reservation but not for existing reservations.

The Wyndham website still advertises it as available after a booking is made.

Of course this doesn't guarantee anything. The website info simply might not have been updated yet. My guess is that it's just another glitch in the new booking site.

They could modify it to be more like the points protection in RCI. One price if you select it when you book and another higher fee if you book later (because usually if you are adding it later it is because you actually plan on cancelling during a period when you wouldn't normally get your points back- more a cancellation fee than an actual insurance fee).
