I found these amazing. At one point the Poconos resorts were the best. I'm sad that these weren't preserved because I'd love to visit now.

I’m sad to see these pictures. We went to Penn Hills for our honeymoon.

We had a company weekend outing at Taimiment resort around 1976. Nice resort back then, but I wonder what it looks like now. Stayed a week at Shawnee just before 2000 and it appeared they were in a bit of financial trouble. Also there was a couple of TUG get togethers in the Poconos back in the early 2000s. All 3 members I knew that lived there have moved since then.

Reminds me of a fantasy writer named James Branch Cabell. He met his wife at one of these resorts in Virginia, in 1912. He went back in the late 40's or early 50's, to find it like those resorts, abandoned and falling into ruin. He wrote an essay about it.

In 50 years, there may be a number of timeshares in the same condition. Think about the fate of the Coco Palms Hotel on Kauai. Even paradise hasn't stopped abandonment. . . .

The Tamiment Resort has been bulldozed, if memory serves. We stayed at Eagle Village at Tamiment around 2010, and they were in the process then. I love the Poconos...but the area is an acquired taste for sure. Very quirky, and as a general rule, the resorts are nowhere as nice as you'd get anywhere else. Still a place I'd like to go back to, though!

Similar fate has affected the many resorts in the Catskills. I have seen graffiti photos of the Nevele, Concorde and other similar resorts
