Hi all
Hoping for some clarity. I see a lot of references to "1 for 1 exchanges" with RCI memberships and can't seem to work out excatly what they are. I own a week but have deposited it into RCI as a points member for 75000 points annually. I have been looking at some resorts that have the 4 in 1 rule and they say "applies to 1 for 1 exchanges" Will this affect me as a points member or can I still book multiple weeks at these resorts?

I'd have to see it more in context to be certain, but from your description, it sounds like it's referring to a "one exchange per one membership" thing, within the 1 in 4 restriction RCI places on certain resorts. In plain language, it means you can only exchange once per membership in a four year period. In the fifth year, you can exchange in again, if you want to.

Does anyone else see this differently?

Edited to add: Just did some Googling on this term. It appears RCI considers "one-for-one inventory" to be the regular inventory of deposited weeks from members that are available for exchange. They say this is different from the inventory of available weeks for rent. I think. ;)

The 1 in 4 rule in RCI usually refers to non owners only. In other words if you are exchanging into a resort where you are the owner but do not own the week you want to exchange into, this 1 in 4 rule does not apply to you, the owner. If you dont own at this resort then you are restricted to the 1 in 4 year rule. This restriction is put on heavily demanded resorts so all have a chance to visit. The 1 for 1 exchange your asking about (but I'm not positive) means you exchange one week for one deposit.

Anyone: Please correct me if I'm wrong here. I would never want to give incorrect advice.

Hi all

One for one can have different meanings depending on the resort. For example Vida (Mayan) has specific definitions for 1 for 1 exchange that is different than most.

For most resorts a 1 for 1 exchange is a full week into weeks inventory. This could be an exchange though either rci points or weeks. You can tell when it is weeks inventory because it has a higher exchange fee (in the US its $219 online vs $169 for points inventory also weeks inventory can only be booked for exactly 7 days). It also means that the restriction generally doesn't apply to Last Call and Extra Vacations unless specifically mentioned. So it may apply to you it may not.
