Heading to Playa Grande in April on an RCI exchange (1 BR suite) and am trying to decide if we should request to be in the Ridge or not at check-in. We are a couple sans children and frequent visitors to Cabo. Have stayed at PBSB, Marina Fiesta and Hacienda Encantada most recently. We are looking forward to the proximity to the Marina from PG as HE required lots of cab rides when we didn't want to be at the mercy of the shuttle schedule.

Does anyone have a map of PG and/or any tips on buildings to request? We are mobile so don't mind walking. Views, hearing the waves, quiet location and wifi are important.

Any other advice on PG is much appreciated! Thank you!

We prefer the lower 40 to the Ridge. Much easier to get to the beach and to multiple pools. Once in the Ridge you stay on the Ridge. Wifi stinks everywhere but I would imagine on the Ridge it would be better reception since the towers are in town and the ridge blocks the signal to the lower 40.
If on the ridge avoid the rooms near the roundabout and the Marine base unless you like being entertained by collectivo buses the raising of the flag and the barking dogs.
In the lower 40 ask for building P or A as they are closest to the ocean. M/L are in the middle of the horseshoe. You can figure out the other buildings from that reference. Avoid first floor rooms as they are noisy and dark. Most of the best rooms are fixed week and RCI exchanges might be floaters who get last room choice. Even a crappy first floor room is nicer than some other resorts. Don't do the AI as the food is average and way overpriced compared to all the choices within a 15 min walk of the front lobby.

Thank you oldbuyer! Maybe I can tip well at the front desk and score a top floor unit! We'd never do the AI option as there are so many good dining options in Cabo.

Don't tip the front desk as management will fire them if observed. The new managing company is brutal at this resort which is why most of the employees have left.
It's smarter to call the front desk 3 days before your arrival and ask nicely for your room preference. As a first time visitor they will do what they can for you. After check in, you will be directed to see the "ladies" for your towel cards. These gals are tough and are only there to sign you up for a presentation and often become aggressive and obnoxious . No gracias 3 or 4 times usually flicks them off of you but they have been known to chase you down if it looks like you are exiting the lobby to go to a presentation around 8:45 to 10:00 on Sundays, Mondays and Tuesdays.

Ha! We are used to the ol' timeshare pitches and have no problem politely refusing.

We own at The Ridge but have kids and often upgrade to a larger unit in the lower area. If you love views pick The Ridge-it is quieter but you still have to get up early to get the better locations near the small infinity pool

I would suggest staying at the Playa Grande resort itself as it has better pools and easier access to the beach. If you do go to a timeshare presentation you should ask to get the 15% off "black card"...it works in the restaurants and the spa. Playa Grande is walking distance to the Marina and into town..enjoy!

We are visiting the sister resort next door, Grand Solmar Lands End the first week of April via rental from owner. Can anybody say what are the offers for "first timers" for their presentation? I saw the mention of a 15% "black card" - is that all they offer? Last year, stayed at Grand Luxxe and their offer was $200 + 10% off card, which was upped to $300 + 10% retroactive 2 days later.

Playa Grande/The Ridge

I just left Playa Grande yesterday. I'm still recovering from knee replacement surgery and may need a hip replacement in the near future. That being said, I contacted PG ahead of checkin and asked for a unit that would require less walking and thought that would be in the lower 40. Got there and was assigned a unit in The Ridge. First of all, because of the lack of signage, it was difficult to find your way around the resort which resulted in going up and down hills (lots of walking!!) just to figure out how to get from point A to B. At one point we could see where we wanted to get to but took us a while (hills and steps) to figure out how to get there. By the second day I did realize that we were actually closer to a back entrance that was closer to the Marina, and not a terribly long walk to the lobby. The units are bright, spacious and lovely; daily maid service; wonderful staff. If/when my mobility improves I would go back again. Had no problem finding chaise lounges at The Ridge pools and only went to the lower 40 for dinner but got a bellboy to drive us in a golf cart down to the restaurant (would have been another long, hilly walk otherwise!!)

Thank you Lauraine! Were you at PG as an owner, did you rent from an owner or did you do an RCI trade? I'm trading via RCI and understand that my requests are not a priority such as an owner's but I'm really hoping for a unit in the "lower 40". If we get placed in The Ridge, I will be (politely!) adamant we are not in earshot of the junkyard with barking dogs! I work at an upscale hotel and am well aware of how to kindly request a good room.

We have a penthouse ownership at Playa Grande and have stayed both at the ridge and the lower buildings. The ridge is a long walk to activities and beach, especially with hip, back or knee problems. If you have any of these conditions, express them when making reservations and request the lower resort area. Easy to get a ride with the bell staff. By the way, I am curious if if anyone has received a soliciting request, such as we received, from TRIVAGO to purchase your timeshare. Almost to good to be true. I am doing research to find out if it is a scam.

yeereid, I had an RCI exchange and my unit was overlooking the Marine base and the barking dogs!! No noise from the base, but there were about 12 dogs that were kept near the base/construction site and they were occasionally annoying. If you get The Ridge, avoid rm 3442 (I think that was the room number)!!

Can you use the ridge pools etc. if you are in the main resort. We have an exchange for August. We have a 1 BR and a studio. Has anyone had any experience upgrading to a 2 BR for our 1BR and studio. The two separate units was our only exchange option. We won't be upset if we have to keep the two units. Just seeing what our options may be. We stayed at the resort a number of years ago and couldn't remember if you had to have key card access to the ridge pools. TIA.

Back from Playa Grande

Everything worked out as I simply requested to be in the Lower 40 at check-in and my wish was granted! The front desk agent showed me a couple of options on the resort map and I accepted a unit on the 2nd floor with a nice view of the pool from our balconies.

We stayed at the Ridge a little over a month ago. The people staying at the main resort can not use the Ridge pools. Those staying at the Ridge can use both pools.

Ridge at Playa Grande

Will be staying there next month, renting the week from a Ridge owner. I was wondering if the rooms come with Wi-Fi automatically or do you have to pay for that separately?

Very excited to go to Cabo for a week. Any hot restaurant tips (or ones to stay away from!) are appreciated.

Are there any new or really fun excursions that anyone recommends? I've only been to Cabo on cruise ship visits, so we will have lots of leisurely time.

TIA :)
