The reviews are really old, from before hurricane damage. What's the current condition of the rooms, resort amenities, and local beaches for a visit this winter? Is everything open in Jan/Feb? Any special info on weather, red tide, boat & bike rentals, etc? Thanks!!!

I have no info on the resort itself. But we go down to Sanibel/Captiva annually, for a day at least. Last year, the powers that be on Captiva essentially ruined a lot of beachfront views by pushing up a 12-foot high sand barrier between the ocean and all the beachfront property. It looks yucky, you have to climb over it to get to the ocean. This was post-hurricane Milton which did a lot of inland damage, but favorite iconic restaurants such as the Mucky Duck are suing now, because they lost their beachfront sunset views which they were famous for, and their primary damage was from sand, not water, so this theoretical "protection" probably does more harm than good. I don't know how it is at South Seas, but you might want to check that.

Also of course red tide can be an issue, no way to know this early, though there were some recent sightings in the past few days off Sanibel or Captiva. We had 2 exchanges into South Seas, probably both in December, and one time all was fine, the other time it was so intense we couldn't be comfortable at the beach on about half the days. We found plenty else to do though, and South Seas has frontage on the other waterfront side, so you should be ok if you are easily entertained.

Oh, excuse me, recent sightings were rust tide, not "red tide." I just checked, this doesn't cause respiratory symptoms (which was why we couldn't be on the beach last exchange for half the days) but they say avoid contact with the water. In any case, there are trackers for all this. It's tough when you're locked into a timeshare exchange as far as moving dates, unless you're flexible in activities. And even during red tide, we sometimes could find a beach off-site where it wasn't as bad.

I own a springtime timeshare in Fort Myers Beach and have not personally experienced a red tide but I've read that red tide blooms that MAY (but may not) develop in October can indeed persist into January and February.

Of course, I explore Sanibel and Captiva every time I'm in the area but know nothing about the current status of your resort. But Fort Myers resorts, aside from those being completely rebuilt from the ground up, are 100% back in business after being repaired, thanks to the huge army of immigrant labor that descended upon the area upon hearing that there was much post-hurricane work to do.

I must have last been in the area prior to the 12 foot high sand barrier being plopped onto the Captiva coastal area to protect against water intrusion. Doesn't at all sound good to me as a traveler (although it may have been elatedly welcomed by resident homeowners) and it might be more than a mobility-challenged person can deal with.

We’ve exchanged into this resort for 1/22/27. I also can’t find any current information on the units or resort. Please let me know if you hear anything. Thanks.

I live about thirty minutes from the island, visit with family. Love the beaches and the restaurants, and driving through Ding Darling .

...the 12 foot high sand barrier... might be more than a mobility-challenged person can deal with.

Thank you for your replies. The main draw for this trip is sunny beach time and beach walks. We do have pain when climbing hills or multiple sets of stairs over several days. So we've decided to pass on this opportunity.

Spent a week in September at Plantation Beach Club. Our old haunts were all open and busy. Yes, there is a sand dune now all along the beach with sparse vegetation to minimize erosion. But it didn’t seem very high to us and you can still enjoy dinner and sunset at Mucky Duck and then walk on the beach beyond the dune for the full effect. The water was calm and clear of red tide. Our guests had a fun time at the Bubble Room and we enjoyed a more upscale dinner at Green Flash.

All of the SW Florida HGVC resorts that were closed have been remodeled and are really nice now. I haven’t been to this one but have been to two others and if they are open it’s because they are done with the remodeling.
The only problem is there might not be much to do locally as not all businesses are fully open again.
I don’t mind though because I go for the beach.
