FYI....received call from VPR with the "we will rent out your last call from RCI" they even gave a very convincing website (link removed) and Ryan even gave his phone number of 689-208-2227.....when reviewing the website it was pretty clear it was fake. google style random ads and only 2 blog articles and a couple reviews....a google search doesn't even bring up the company.....beware of this scam.

I received the same call tonight from Ryan, (689)-208-2227. He said he was working for “MyVPrentals.com”. He knew all of my personal info that he probably could get from the property sales deed. He wanted to purchase my “Get Away Weeks” for $1400/week. Of course I would have to give him my credit card number so that I could purchase those weeks from my home property. They would send me a certified check in 90 days.....which would be past the 30 to 60 day limit to dispute the charge. Sounded too good to be true so I passed on the offer. I then contacted RCI and also a trusted HICV sales person and they both told me it was a scam. So glad I passed on that offer!!!

Super simple fix: If you don't recognize the name or number - DON'T ANSWER THE PHONE! If they leave a suspicious message, then simply block their number. If they don't leave a message - just ignore them. Easy Peazy!

Scammers go where there are easy marks and little to zero risk for prosecution. That leads directly to one of many advertising listing companies that come and go in this industry.

They set up a website to advertise timeshares for sale. However, they lie through their teeth to get the upfront fee, their real target. This particular company doesn’t even try to hide the fact that they are out to scam. Their website was created in February 2020 and yet they only have ONE timeshare for rent. They have what appears to be two other homes for rent. One doesn’t appear to be for rent at all according to Google. The other address that they are advertising for $4200/mo is actually a Marriott hotel. That’s it for their website. They also have Priceline ads in their website which makes it look like they have more rentals than they really do. Frankly, I don’t think they have updated their website since the day they created it.

Stay away from this company, and all advertising listing companies, as they are all out for the upfront fee and nothing more.

Those are the two main factors of the typical rental and resale scam.

As for getting all your personal information, it's likely that he got it from a list that is sometimes sold by former or current resort or exchange company employees.

This scam was attempted on me today. It was very confusing because the caller made it sound like he worked for RCI. He claimed I could rent out up to 4 Getaway Weeks a year and make $3,600 profit this year alone. Of course, I had to pay a $1999 "activation fee" this year. I asked for documentation on the offer, but he just sent me to myvprentals dot com, which doesn't hold up under scrutiny. The website is full of ads and lacking in actual content. I'm glad I found this thread before I made a bad choice.

You should edit your title from most likely to it is.

If it's that easy to make $3600 per year, why are they making you that offer?
  1. Wouldn't it make more sense for them to obtain the getaways weeks themselves and get $3600 year after year after year, instead of collecting a one-time $1999 fee?
  2. If the offer were real, why would they need to cold-call to sell it? "Smart money" would be all over this type of situation.
It's the old saying, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is too good to be true.
