Hey SDO and WKV Tuggers,

Next year’s Super Bowl (which will be in Phoenix) and the final round of the FBR Open PGA golf tour both fall on Sunday, February 3, 2008 next year.

The one year home-resort booking window for this time period just opened.

If you are interested in going to either or both of these events, or anticipate renting out your units next year, I bet this will be a very high demand week.

FYI,
-nodge

Interesting, how would you reserve that WEEK? Since you can only reserve a full week what would it be Fri-Fri, Sat-Sat, Sun-Sun, and which side of the week would you reserve?

Good point. Sounds like the Friday before the Super Bowl would be the best option.

Gotta love TUG - thanks for this info - I just made reservations 12-months out for WKV.

I had many, many timeshares reserved for 8night stays (for participants) and the final 5night stays (for attendees) for this year's FBR and not a one of them rented. Not one, and they were well advertised and reasonably priced. Not even a nibble on eBay. I hope I do better with the Super Bowl next year.

Not surprised. I'm at the Westin Kierland this week and if the parking lot is any indicator of occupancy the Villas are about half full. I'm staying in one of the new buildings (#7) and feel like I have the building to myself. Unlike the Super Bowl the FBR Open is more of an event for the locals. The local news paper did have an article this week about the shortage of hotel rooms being a problem for the Super Bowl in 2008.

AFC Team to stay at Kierland

This should add some sizzle to a Kierland rental; the AFC team and their families are staying at Kierland the entire week before the SuperBowl. I personally think that Sun-Sun is the best timeframe to rent, but I plan to reserve some higher scale Hotels for Sun-Mon night after the SuperBowl to match up with my rentals just to try and insure good rental prices for my Kierland 2 bedroom, Sheraton Desert Oasis 2 bd and 1 Large bd rentals. (all reserved)

I personally think that Kierland will go for $4-$5k for the 2 bedroom for the week, and SDO for $2500-3000. I guess it matters which teams make it as to the value of the rental. It could go for more than that... I think last year in Detroit Holiday Inns were going for $400 a night.

$$$Good luck$$$ if you are renting these weeks!!

Just curious on the hotel reservation part of this. Do all hotels allow you to just change the name on the room reservation?

There was a post on the last minute rentals for this years super bowl and the poster had to keep lowering the price and finally got taken yesterday. thread

I just don't think people going to the superbowl consider renting a TS.

I agree, that even a good timeshare week is hard to rent. I had several weeks of New Orleans for New Years and Sugar Bowl (Dec 29-Jan5)-not one bite, even though it was cheaper than the hotels. I even spent $500 advertising in the 2 sports teams newspapers.

Good info... I have always been able to rent out the weeks I have tried to rent, only 3 for 3 so small sample of how things can go, so I have somewhat taken it for granted that I could always rent them. Just from the few messages posted I will make sure I have more exposure/advertising options lined up to try and make sure they rent. I think we Tuggers must be a small % of the population because I know our family finds it VERY hard to enjoy travelling unless we stay in a TS for our trips.

We'll see how it goes, I will post how it goes next year.

OK - those of you are are going to try to rent your week for Superbowl, where are you going to list it? I listed my SDO week on TUG and Craig's list, but would be interested in other low-cost/free options.

Here is a recent newspaper article that gives the current estimated number of vistors (including those estimated to come from out of town) for both events, and it discusses the planned hotel room shortfall.

I'm not a big football fan, but it might be fun to try to score some tickets through the official ticket lottery and go if we are lucky enough to get tickets (or package the rental with the tix for even more $$$$$:whoopie:)

OK, for a timeshare that you can reserve 'nightly' not just weekly, what nights would you reserve to rent for the Super Bowl? Fri/Sat/Sun nights? More, less?

I made my Kierland reservation at 9 AM on Friday, Feb 1st. After it was completed, the reservationist asked me what the heck was going on - seems they had been inundated and were totally not expecting it.

I have no idea what rentals will get, but if you go to the Starwood site and ask for hotels in Phoenix.Scottsdale for Feb 1-4, there is NO AVAILABILITY! I don't think you can compare the golf tournament and the Super Bowl - two separate universes. The Super Bowl has become an almost religious event.

Now, if anyone can PM me on how to get Super Bowl tickets, me, my two sons and my son-in-law could have one helluva time!

There were some really great units for rent in Miami that appear to be going for reasonable prices that didn't rent. Some still available. The news reported some homeowners renting homes for $20,000 for the week

RedWeek prices 1 BR SDO Superbowl week at 1914 Points

For those looking for data on how to price their SDO villa weeks during the Superbowl, Redweek currently has a "one bedroom" SDO offered for 1914 points. No mention on whether it is the large or small one bedroom.

I think you can buy Redweek points for $1 per point. Accordingly, Redweek thinks the week is worth $1914.

FYI,

I have our WKV (large) up for rent for that weekend/week (2/2-2/9) for less than this - no hits so far.

Until we know what teams are in the Super Bowl, I wouldn't expect much. People who are willing to pay big bucks are going to be fans following their teams. The random drawing for tickets is in Oct. and we may see some action after that, but I think most rentals will be late in the season.

I figured this - if it doesn't rent - no big deal - we may want to go to Spring Training anyway - or use to SVN exchange into HI later in the year to go with our other week.

There's already a huge number of ads running on Craigslist for superbowl rentals.
