Garbage. I agree that there needs to be a way out of it’s paid for, but to forgive a loan or suspend maintenance fees? Who is going to pay to maintain the property? For the most part, whoever is running the resort isn’t the one getting rich (with the exception of DRI), it’s the developer. What should happen is the 2022 budget should account for these resorts running at a reduced capacity or even being closed and carry any surplus from 2021 to 2022 to reduce the MF.

No interest in signing petition. Should we forgive car loans and mortgages?

My motto don’t buy what you can’t afford and know what your buying.

Thoughts, buying and owning a timeshare is like any other purchase. The buyer needs to do their due diligence before any purchase. Just because of hard times doesn’t relieve someone of their obligation of anything.

I did not sign this petition. However, the consumer needs better protection.
Sale staff needs to stop their high pressure sales tactics and their needs to be a Longer grace Period to cancel a timeshare sals contract. Finally, the consumer needs a written exit plan from their timeshare obligations. IMO.

I did like item #4.

I have watched, with interest, the long lines of late model cars pulling up to the local food handouts. People getting $10 - $15 worth of food to hold them over. Plus the governmental decrees that landlords can't evict tenants during this crisis. I think the "marketplace" will take care of the points in this petition. There won't be enough legal staff to address the defaults from "average" citizens. The paycheck to paycheck people.

The petition is not timely or necessary. However, the general points below it (from the Coalition to Reform Timeshare) are certainly good goals. Since individual states' laws govern timeshares, probably not much will be implemented. Just MHO.

It looks like this was setup by the Coalition to Reform Timeshares. Wasn't that created by Timeshare Exit Team?

Hard to say.

I just find it interesting that folks whine about timeshares when they can sell, deed back and lastly in a few states default with no risk of deficiency (but maybe a credit hit).

There are options. Instead of whining and fighting for change just dump the thing and move on.

I don't sign online petitions as it can sometimes lead to selling your contact information, then you get bombarded with similar themed messages.

Perhaps a way for TET to collect info to market to timeshare owners?

I for holding people to their debts. In countries where taxes are paid attach it to refunds. Also attach it to properties where the sale can be forced. And debtors prisons or at least a debt list so others know who not to lend to.

What a great way to collect it, too. A focused group just for your sleazy business.

Can I speculate this is just a data gathering process the exit companies will use to spam those that signed it?

How do I know? Just look at the news section of those who initiated this, the Coalition to Reform Timeshares you will see one article after another siding with the exit companies like: "Proposal to Eliminate Timeshare Exit Assistance Draws Concern from House Committee"

I find this very dishonest because a reform of the timeshare industry would lead to a wipe-out of the exit companies. It is clear to me their scope is not a reform. This is like wolves polling sheep if they wanted better security.

I found the link, the coalition is founded by Brandon Reed who owns the Timeshare Exit team! These guys have zero shame.
