People are only just realizing what's in the secret sauce at most burger joints

Fast-food lovers are realizing that this mayonnaise, ketchup and pickle relish salad dressing has long been the 'secret sauce' used at most burger joints in the country.
While the original story of Thousand Island Dressing is up for debate, its cool, creamy taste has been a favorite for decades for both diners and retailers.

Always been a just mustard preference myself:

During my starving student college days in the early 70s, we frequently mixed ketchup, mayo, and relish to make Thousand Island sauce. First time I had a Big Mac I knew what the sauce was, though it was notably more complex than our basic. When Idahoans venture further afield, 1K Island sauce can also substitute for fry sauce.

Apparently, there is no ketchup in Big Mac sauce. Mayo, relish, mustard, vinegar and a few spices. The reddish color comes from paprika, not ketchup. I learned this when I was making "Big Mac Tacos", a viral TikTok recipe, on the flattop for the family.

And here's the "special sauce" recipe. This is as close as anyone is going to get without degrees in both chemistry and food science:

IF you had read the article (and not just turned a blind eye because it was from the Daily Mail) you could have seen this information (in a link within the article):

2. Thousand Island Dressing

Creamy salad dressings like Caesar and Ranch are another major culprit of weight gain. And when you consider the sugar content of Thousand Island, this particular creamy choice is especially bad for your fitness goals.
"Thousand Island dressing typically contains a combination of ketchup, mayonnaise, and sweet relish, all of which contribute to its high sugar content," Keller tells us. "The mix of sugars from these ingredients can lead to blood sugar spikes." Over time, those blood sugar spikes can result in a range of issues, including problems with your heart and kidneys, weight gain, and more.

I don't click-thru junk like that.
Are they claiming "special sauce" is a lot like 1000 Isle, and nobody figured that out before? WHAT? I figured that out the 1st time I ate at Mickey Ds.

Are they claiming "special sauce" is actually just 1000 Isle? No it isn't. I eat 1000 Isle all the time, plenty of different brands. It is close, but there is a difference. Not big. But it is slightly different, whereas all the 1000 Isles are more similar to each other.
Anyway, that might have been an interesting topic 50 yrs ago.

I have always known that the secret sauce was a blend of ketchup (AKA catsup), mayo or Miracle Whip, and maybe a few additional spices.

Speaking of sauces, I found a copycat recipe for Heinz 57 sauce on allrecipes.com that is supposed to be identical to that sauce, but it's a little sweeter and, consequently, much more delicious. I use that sauce in meatloaf, a meatloaf recipe I also found on allrecipes.com. Even the generic version of Heinz 57 was pricey, so I found the recipe. So good. Just worcestershire sauce, ketchup, yellow mustard and some lemon juice. So good. I like the meatloaf I make on the sweeter side, anyway, so this sauce works great for me.

Nope. Didn't. I clicked to your post out of my undying R-E-S-P-E-C-T.
Daily Mail or the like? Not going to happen
Well thank you.

RE: Daily Mail

Yes, they are an aggregator to gather eyeballs, but I have found many of their stories researched with accompanying links to original articles and with excellent graphics which can be embedded in other posts.

In this article, what I found interesting was that 1K island dressing is so nutritionally bad and how prevalent it is through other burger chains, not that MickyD's "secret sauce" is a variant of Thousand Island Dressing.

1000 Isle, ketchup, most of the CPG on store shelves ... sugar, fat, manipulated fats, HFCS, the stuff'll kill ya. (and then there is ALCOHOL!!)
Was it surprising that the concept of "Whole Foods" was great marketing?
Get plenty of exercise and remind yourself you probably didn't want to live to be 110 anyway.

I just realized the last time I ate at MCDs was a dozen yrs ago when we stayed at the far end of the D-Head end of Waikiki. We walked past that MCDs on the corner a couple of times, and eventually I thought "Now there's a change from all this healthy fish. Let's do it!"
