It is about time to pay MFs. Is there a benefit to using one card or the other? Thanks.

No benefit with the Marriott Bonvoy Visa. The 6X point multiplier won't apply on Vistana MF spend.

Chase Sapphire Reserve is best to use for paying Vistana MF. $300 credit as Timeshare MF count as travel. 3X Chase Points which can be used for booking travel at 1.5 cents so payback is 4.5%.

Good info but Chase Sapphire Reserve may not be in the OP's wallet since the choices were Bonvoy Amex, Marriott Visa and Costco Visa and of those three the winner would be the Bonvoy Amex.

Westin MF's don't count for Bonvoy?

They count for Bonvoy but apparently the legacy Marriott Visa cards are not providing the bonus points when paying Vistana MFs.

I don't even think the new Chase Bonvoy card pays the multiplier on Vistana MFs. The old and new Amex do.

Do you know if the Chase Bonvoy pays the multiplier on MVC maintenance fees?

I use the Chase Sapphire. They are more versatile and I still get 2X points. That way I’m not stuck with just Marriott points, especially with the recent Marriott “peak pricing.” It makes it harder to plan with points, which is why they designed it that way.

I apologize for not phrasing the question better.

if I use the Marriott bonvoy brilliant American Express card to pay my maintenance fees, I understand I should get the point multiplier for the Marriott maintenance fees. My question was, will I get the points multiplier if I use this card to pay for the Westin maintenance fees as well?

Sorry this was such a long question. I used it for minimum spending requirements last time and did not note if it points multiplied or not.

Thanks in advance

I used the Bonvoy Brillant to Pay the maintenance on (1) Sheraton & (1) Westin Property last year and I received the multipliers (6x). The breakdown was as follows:

Maintenance Paid: $2337 ($1105 + $1231)
Points Received: 14022

I got the 6x multiplier with my Bonvoy American Express when I paid my Vistana (Westin) maintenance fees last year.

Perhaps a good sign that Vistana fees may earn the multiplier this year. We bought an Encore (Explorer) Package at SVV in September. The initial down payment and the October and November installments did not earn the 6x multiplier on DW's Chase Bonvoy credit card. However, I checked the payment that they charged in December, and it did earn the multiplier. The payee name (EXPLORER VACATION PKG) did not change for any of the three installments. So perhaps Chase has updated their system to include these new payees and we may see the multiplier for Vistana MFs.

A further update. I paid our SVV Key West MFs on the same Chase Bonvoy Visa and they are now qualifying for the 6X multiplier!

Just paid our Bella MFs this morning. Will report back if they post with the 6x multiplier. This is a great change. Means an extra 7100 Bonvoy points that we wouldn't get.

For those of us north of the border, I confirm all of the MFs on my VOIs generated 5x for each Canadian dollar (ie around 6.75x for comparison) on the AMEX Bonvoy card.

Our SVV Bella MF payment also earned the 6X multiplier on the Chase Bonvoy Visa!

So this is a challenge for me as I have both my Canadian legacy SPG card as well as the US Amex Bonvoy Brilliant card (yes I realize I'm paying a bunch in annual fees - but benefits - free night and $300 back on MF for the Brilliant card - make it worthwhile).

I realize I can get a bunch more bonvoy points because of the exchange rate, but the 2.5% conversion that Amex charges adds an extra $36 to the payment of my SVR MF. I'm not sure that is worth the extra 850 bonvoy points. In many senses the US Brilliant card is a much superior product since there is no 2.5% added for currency conversions.

Do you prefer the 6X Bonvoy multiplier or the 4.5% Chase Sapphire? I consider these to be equal, but I generally use Chase Sapphire simply because the travel spend is much more versatile as it can be used for airfare, ANY hotel, or rental cars.

Plus Chase Rewards can also be used as cash. Not the highest return at 1x but if you generated 3x for MF and you find a deep discount, it can pay for items such as excursions. We just paid for discount Disney tix this way and avoided a $1000 cash outlay = free. Cant do that with Bonvoy points.
