If you book your deeded week, you wouldn't have any points remaining.
If you convert your deeded week to CUP points, then you can make a reservation for a week or less than a full week on the Hyatt internal exchange site (the "Lounge"), and it will show you how many points the reservation will require, and hence how many you will have left.
I also inquired about this and was told that if I book anything other than what I own (both week and unit type) I will essentially be making a CUP booking and have to compete with others for those dates.
I think the biggest risk is losing the week to an existing waitlist request.
