Thinking about Park City for summer 2013. If you plan early enough seems that there are a choice of nice accomadations.

Probably looking to trade a 1 bedroom Marriott for a 2 bedroom in Park City so I can't use an ongoing search. We would be 2 upper 30's adults with 7 and 12 yo boys.

We will be spending a week in Cape Cod in a one bedroom so we would really like to spread out if possible for this vacation.

DH likes a sports bar within walking distance. I would like to spend 5 days exploring the local and surrounding area and 1-2 days just hanging out at the resort and/or activities within walking or very short driving distance.

Looking at Marriott MountainSide, Marriott Summit Watch, Westgate Park City or Raintree Miner's club. Miner's Club trades with RCI and would rather stick with II unless Miner's Club is so much better.

I would think Mid-Late June might be too chilly and July and early August would be best.

Any thoughts or recommendations would be appreciated.

I have often seen Marriott 2 beds at Summit Watch and Mountainside - just keep checking the internet site - it might be a bit early yet to see them. Funtime

I think you are right on target with July or early August. If you want sunshine and warm weather, that's the time to go. June is a real mixed bag. It might be sunny and nice, but it might be chilly and rainy. It could even snow. So stick with July and August.

Of the resorts you listed, I think that Raintree's Miner's Club is the nicest. However, there is nothing within walking distance.

If you want to be able to walk to a sports bar, then Marriott's Summit Watch is the logical choice. It is located right on Main Street with tons of shops, restaurants, bars, and activities within walking distance.

With your list of what is important to you, I'd rank the resorts like this:

1) Marriott's Summit Watch -- by far the best location based on your tastes

2) Marriott's Mountainside -- best pool for the kids, and 2nd best location

3) Westgate -- nice resort, but not as well located for summer

4) Miner's Club -- very nice resort, but isolated and very quiet location

Have fun planning your trip.

Steve

If it's Summit Watch in early August, we may see you there (4-11 Aug). If you were thinking at all of some time in Salt Lake city at the end of July, be aware that there is a large convention going on, 17000 or so attendees, as I understand it. We found that hotels are already booked, and that few car rental deals were available. Seems to clear up after July 30, though.

I think you may find it difficult to trade into a 2 bedroom at Westgate or Miners Club. SHould be no problem getting a 2 bedroom for a 1 bedroom at Summit Watch or Mountainside if you strat looking far in advance.

Westgate just did a bulk for summer 2013 for both 1 bedrooms and a few 2 bedrooms in July and Aug. It is what made me think about it now. I do think the Miner's club (which does look nice in the pictures and sounds nice in the reviews)may be difficult but I was leaning toward II anyway. The Marriott's have more write ups than the Westgate so I thought I would ask because I would probably have to grab one now. I'd seen the 2 bedroom Marriott's even without a Marriott trader in the past so was thinking I should be able to get something in the 10-12 month range there.

The kids do like semi fancy pools but are happy with almost anything. I'm guessing that all outdoor pools in the area are heated.

I had no issue trading our 1 bedroom Grand Chateau for a 2 bedroom Mountainside. I don't think you'll have a problem.

Between the two and from your description of you husband wanting/liking a sports bar within walking distance, I'd go for Summit Watch. Mountainside has some restaurants and bars nearby but they were closing early and that annoyed me. The Mexican restaurant stayed open late and had sport on in their bar area but, it wasn't that large. Doolin's (I think that was the name) was a short walk away from Summit Watch and was much larger with a much better bar than the Mexical restaurant near Moutainside.

Mountainside was also a family priorty resort when we were there. There is a fun park right next door that makes it a better location for families IMHO.

While we enjoyed Mountainside and it is a great resort, next time we'll probably stay at Summit Watch. We like being closer to town, there's not as many attractions to draw families with kids vs Mountainside and it's within an easy walk to Main St. with all it's shops and restaurants.

Both resorts are probably within a 5 or 7 minute drive from each other and, there is a free bus (tips encouraged) that will take you from Main St to Mountainside.

I have kids(10/15 now) and we stayed a SummitWatch 3 summers ago. They liked being in the middle of town.

I was really amazed at the MAZE staff, they were excellent and had lots of activities for the kids.

Yep the pool is kind of on the small size compared to SummitWatch, but it worked the few times they used it. We did not spend that much time at the resort, too many things to do in the area.

Yes ther are bars in Park City but Sports Bar? Don't recall ever seeing one there.

Summit Watch is nice and is definetly at the base of main street but... It only takes one day to walk all of main street so I wouldn't be all that hung up on having to be downtown.

Check out all the amenities of both Marriotts and Westgate and choose from there. We spent two weeks there this summer and spent a l ot of time driving through the whole area sightseeing, hiking, biking shopping etc.

I vote for the Marriott Summitwatch

The Marriott Summitwatch is in a great location! You will have a long running/walking/biking trail right behind the resort that is great. There is also a park near by and you can walk to all the Main Street shops. About two blocks away, we discovered a great new Restaurant and Whiskey Tasting/Tour. The name of it is High West. Enjoy your trip!

All 4 of the resorts are very nice. The pools at Mountainside are the best.

I cant remember any sports bars but there are 2 breweries Wasatch and Uintah that are pretty good. If your husband likes darker beers cant beat Polygamy Porter. I like Provo Girl. There is quite alot to do around the area if you are outdoorsy.

You can also take a day to go downtown to Salt Lake, there will be sports bars downtown and there is a big shopping outdoor mall. The downtown City Creek area should be done by then and you can always walk over and see the grounds at the Temple.

You might want to take a day and go up the Cottonwood Canyons and see Snowbird and Alta. The mountains are very pretty and you can ride the tram up to the top.

Have fun Northern Utah is very pretty.

For the age of your kids, the MAZE at Summit Watch is very good. The staff there is the best I've ever encountered. However, the pools at Mountainside are a bit nicer.

Still for the location, I'd take Summit Watch over Mountainside.
