Park City Late May/Early June

We are planning a family get together in late May/early June with our adult children (but no kids). We are looking at Park City because it's different, we and all three kids can fly there on Southwest (from Cleveland, Seattle, New York, Nashville). Kids like outdoor activities (biking, hiking, etc). And, of course, we want to hang out together and have a couple of nice dinners out.

My questions:

Is this a good time to go to Park City given what we want?

Any big difference between Summitt Watch and Mountainside?

How crowded is it likely to be? I've done a search using DC points, and there seems to be a lot of availability, and it looks pretty reasonable (1225 points for a week at Mountainside) until later in June.

Thanks for your help.

Park City will be deserted during that time - no crowds at all. The ski season will be over, and the summer attractions (alpine slide, alpine coaster, etc) generally don't start up until mid-June (depending on the amount of residual snow).

Summit Watch provides larger units and close proximity to the shops and restaurants of Main Street. Mountainside provides a much superior pool and close proximity to the mountain activities.

We own two summer weeks at Mountainside, so you can guess that I am a fan of that place.

You could get one at Mountainside and one at Marriott Summit Watch and have the best of both but the pool and hot tubs are much better at Mountainside so you might want to get both units there. Go you will love it! And you should not all rent cars at the SLC airport - there are jitneys that can take you to Park City and then the buses around town are free. Funtime

We did a week starting the day before Memorial Day in 2010 via an II getaway special at Mountainside. The weather was high 60s to low 70s and sunny most of the time which ended up being about perfect. That's generally about what you should expect for that time of the year, but keep in mind that it's still spring and you could get rained on some or all of the time.

Most of the on-mountain activities should be up and running by Memorial Day - I wouldn't go before then because it will be a ghost town. Lift-served, downhill mountain biking won't generally be available until mid-June, but there are lots of trails you can explore under your own power. Depending on how much snow we get, good hiking may or may not be readily available (snowfall so far this year has been meager) - there are always good hiking trails to be had, especially if you're willing to drive 30 minutes or so to a trailhead.

I highly recommend taking a drive to Mirror Lake. There are several good hiking trails along the way and the scenery is spectacular. I recall it being about an hour drive. Mirror Lake is usually open in early June, but one year it was closed when we visited due to the heavy spring snowfall.

Rafting is also usually best early in the summer as the snow is melting off (although the water is very cold). Mountainside has more onsite facilities, a better workout room, and there is free bus transportation to town.

We went to SummitWatch in early June a few years ago. It snowed one day!

All the summer activities were open at PCMR.

My boys(now 10/15) really enjoyed the trip, when poking around in II I'll see a summer 2br at SummitWatch and they both tell me book it!

Are the floor plans posted for Summit Watch? I went searching on the MVCI site and found none (or didn't know where to look).

Thanks!

I didn't go, but I got my buddy and his wife a 2BR at Mountainside a few years ago in mid June. They are also hikers/bikers. They had an absolute blast, and said it was one of their best vacations ever. They hiked, rented bikes, went on the mountain slides, etc. They said there were fantastic restuarants in Park City and also more about 30 minutes drive.

For the outdoors family, that would probably be great.

Hope this link works

We just snagged a last minute 2 bedroom Summit Watch unit the week leading up to Christmas. It was wonderful. Nicely updated units in the last year or so with granite countertops, SS appliances, new furniture, carpet. Very convenient location to Main Street shops/restaurants. The pool and hot tubs, while not up to par with Mountainside, are nice.
