Enjoying seeing the city during the Olympics. Saw Beach Volleyball from top of the Eiffel Tower and some Race Walking from the Premier Etage restaurant Madame Brasserie. Got tix to Womens Soccer USA-Japan and some rowing tomorrow. The atmosphere is great and the Parisiennes are playing excellent hosts! A little warm not too much AC in town.

Any other TUGgers snag a timeshare for the Olympics :)

Nope, but I know a few people who went there on their own. My daughter is already talking about going to Los Angeles for the next Summer Olympics.

Which timeshare were you able to book? And what magic did you pull to make that happen?

I noticed that in beach volleyball...
The men wear tank tops and shorts.
The women wear bikinis.

Some Olympic sports are just silly.
I'm waiting for darts and pickleball.

Women can also wear shorts or leggings, the bikinis are no longer the mandatory uniform. Some teams have worn other uniforms, depending on the weather.

And friends and I who live here are already talking about where we plan to escape to in summer 2028! ;)

Very cool that you are seeing so much, and not getting lost in the masses. Keep having fun.

I've also watched some events on TV - sailing, water polo, surfing, basketball, kayak racing

But some events - breakdancing, dressage, for example - I don't know why they are called "sports"
Way too many events. Even before the new edition. I am for some new events. Snowboarding in Nagano. But not a whole bunch of snow boarding events.

Never been a fan of race walking but when done legally a very impressive feat for all. The problem is enforcing everyone for 50km.
3 x 3 basketball should go, mixed relays if they are any, mixed doubles, a few swimming events and all horse events but that is part of years past.

Crazy at one point wrestling was out. That and track are the purest form of the olympics.

Very different without Russia.

A lot of talk about how women make up 50% of the athletes. That is great but a lot more are from the developed world then compared to the men. Is that really the equality people want?

Funny how Snoop Dogg is a USA poster boy but how many have been busted for pot?

The new sports, the Snoop mascot it's all about NBC tv ratings and attracting the audience they need to boost revenue via ads. NBC owns the rights through 2032 they pay Snoop $500k/day for his appearances it's all about recouping said expenditures via advertising to the specific group they want to target as the most monetary flow for Olympics is the U.S; NBC doesn't care for anything else.

I was at Versailles for the day and saw the people in the stands for Equestrian Events and heard announcements. I saw the Dressage events on TV and thought they were great, can't imagine what it takes for the horse and rider to make/signal all those changes.

I've got an Apartment hotel, Citadines, near Gare de Leon through Royal Holiday Club. Much more central than HGV/DRI property near Vincennes. Same for the week prior in London near Trafalgar Square.

.
I'm looking forward to the Olympic Cornhole and Olympic Pickleball contests .... and Olympic Tug of War

I’d give Olympic Pickleball a good chance of appearing within the next few cycles. Seems like on par w/ table tennis.

and on par with badminton.

While I have kinda followed the Olympics in the news, I haven't watched a single second of coverage. I prefer the Winter Games, but tend to not watch all that much of those either. We rarely turn the television on anymore. Perhaps only when there is a tornado warning and use our OTA antenna.

Bowling? There's an physically demanding activity (not sport) and athletic prowess. Where to put the beer?

New Olympic sport -- Darts, with background
noise, catcalls, beer drinking and swearing.

Events I could do without -- Speed climbing, or
any climbing for that matter, and synchronized
diving. No one cares if you synchronize anything.

Pretty much, that and badminton. I find these unusual Olympic sports interesting to watch - - for about 10 minutes

I used to watch the Olympics in my youth but ever since they allowed professionals I haven't watched. That changed everything and ruined it in my opinion.

News flash: there have always been professionals competing in the Olympics. The only way to even the playing field was to officially throw out the the amateur-only rules since many countries, mainly the Soviet block countries, claimed their athletes were amateurs, but in reality those athletes' state-sponsored jobs were to only train for their sport, under the cover of "being in the army" or other such fabrications.
