Ozark Mtn Resort

We are thinking of the possibility of a winter trip (late January or February) to this resort. We aren't interested in Branson shows, theme parks, etc. since we will be taking the dog and don't want to leave him locked in a kennel.

We are interested in walking, hiking, and nature but wonder if this is a poor time of year for those activities.

Any information about this area in winter would be welcome!

It all depends on what you want. OMR is in the boonies and if you are looking for winter solitude, it could fit the bill. It's not north enough for full winter activites like snowmobiles and skiing. Fox River would be better for that and Fox River has a heated indoor pool. If you like being out in nature during the peace and quiet of winter then OMR will probably fit your wants.

We took our dog there and had a Presidential unit - great view of mountains and lakes, plus my dog loved the back screened-in porch. The resort itself is a fantastic hike - very hilly. I would also suggest Table Rock Lake State Park and marina - a very nice asphalt path.

I think this may be exactly what I'm looking for. It's nice to hear that the Pres Units have a screened porch. We have taken our dog to several other Silverleaf resorts (staying in non-Pres units) and were happy with being able to take our dog.

Any other hiking recommendations in the area? I've looked at the website for Mark Twain National Forest and that seems like that might be nice.

I'm not sure ALL Pres had screened porches - if you can ask for PV 105, that's what we had and I think it had the best view (on the end, on top) as we couldn't even tell that construction was going on. Stairs are at parking level and one unit is Right There, one is downstairs, one is upstairs, so we had one flight of stairs.

I would suggest testing the screen doors before letting poochie on the porch as the front porch door was easy to push open but the back was secure. The living room was sliding doors, so it was easy to let the dog decide where she wanted to be without our having to open doors for her all the time. This time of year, tho, I don't know that it will be warm enuf for that.

Dogwood Canyon will be another nature/hiking recommendation, BUT, we didn't go because you had to pay even to hike. It wasn't like the state park fees, either, where it's nominal and by car, it was expensive (sorry, I can't remember how much). I can tell you to skip Indian Point - I don't think it was dog-friendly, and there wasn't much to see.

All of the Presidentials at Ozark Mountain have a screened area.. some are configured differently. They are currently involved in some construction and the new ones may not have screened, All of the ones on the 1st level are screened.

Recently it has been 70 degrees and it has been in the teens. Normal is 30's and 40's for highs.

Most everything Bransony is closed in January and February, but you are not interested in that anyway.

We are also not offering boat rides for that timeframe.
