I understand as a week owner at GO I can use the facilities on a space available basis when staying elsewhere at Hilton Head. My question is how does it work in actual practice? Does anyone own a home down there but use GO pools or take their fitness classes or eat at the pool bar (not that that would be much of a benefit!) What do you show to be allowed through the gate? I got a card for my points ownership but nothing for my week. Do they routinely turn owners away or if I go will they let me in?

I've done the day pass at Ocean Watch and Lakeshore Reserve. Each time, you arrive like you normally would for check-in and walk to the front desk. They have the ability to verify ownership and will tell you where to park your car and give you pool towels. I was at Ocean Watch a few days ago checking out and the people in front of me were asking for a day pass. It took about five or six minutes and they were on their way and told to have a good time.

Do we have a list of which properties accept day passes and at what time periods ? Several exclude peak times if I recall?

Playa Andaluza Year Round Facilities Use Programme for Owners
(this has recently been restricted due to heavy usage and certain Owners believed to be commercialising the programme!)
“access to the Resort Facilities under the Program is limited to only the primary and secondary Holiday Owner who has signed the Term Sheet. We also will allow usage of the Resort Facilities to the primary or secondary Holiday Owners’ direct family members when registered on the Term Sheet. Photo ID member card is mandatory for all users.”

Hilton Head resorts Grande Ocean, Barony, and Surfwatch have this benefit. In the past they have given wrist bands and allowed us access for the week. Grande Ocean parking pass was across the street now where the sales center is. Barony had us park in the garden section.

All three resorts have been very nice.

I live in Port Royal Plantation where the Barony is located and own two weeks there from the days we lived in NoVA. I get a parking pass, yellow color, that's good for 30 days at a time. I park in front and can do so any days except around three holidays. I use the workout space five or so days a week and have eaten there. My wife has taken exercise classes in the indoor pool. It's a nice ownership perk.

Lakeshore day passes are a little different than some of the others. It is an ownership right rather than management discretion and there are no blackout days. Many of the other resorts that have day passes can use discretion to block it or limit the number on a given day.

We've started using SurfWatch when at our home in Leamington. They gave us wristbands that say "Owner" on them, a parking pass good for a month at a time in the overflow lot near the basketball court, and a keycard that accesses the fitness center, etc. They told us that we can pick up an Activities Schedule anytime and participate, and, that they haven't yet had to impose a limit on Day Pass usage even during holiday/high-demand periods. They also told us that at SW, Barony and Grande Ocean, the beachfront bar/grill are all open to the public anyway so nobody needs to show keys or wristbands to eat/drink. (Not sure how that works from the street side because Security can stop you at the gate if your you don't have keys and your name isn't on their list, but it's easy enough to walk up from the beach.) It sounds stupid but one of the things I love about SW access is picking from their herb garden - nice to have the fresh herbs without planting my own. :)

I use Barony's spa from time to time which also comes with day usage but eventually we'll stop in to pick up the Owner wristbands/parking pass there, too. Why not? Like Steve says, it's a nice ownership perk.

When we owned at Grande Ocean, we used a day pass for the 4th of July week. We had to park across the street. We went into the office and they looked us up and gave us a day pass.

We own at MGO and a home in Sea Pines. We use it like a swim club. We have met other families who live on the island all year and bought silver weeks to do the same. Once a week we need to get new wrist bands. We can either use towels from the front desk or just bring our own. The kids can charge food they buy from Dolphin Grille and it gets charged once a week to my credit card on file when we got the wrist bands. We have not been restricted but we have never done it during July 4th week the busiest week of the year. We have used many other times of the year like August, Christmas-New Years, spring break and even during the heritage week in April without an issue. It is a great perk that points owner don't have.

From the GO Owners Letter just received....
Enjoy a Day Pass at your Resort
As an Owner, even if you are not staying at the resort, we invite you to use the amenities and parking facilities at the resort on a space-available basis between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. daily. To obtain a day pass and parking pass, the deeded Owner must be present to show identification at either the Guard Gate or at the Front Desk. The pass is limited to a party of six people. Due to heavy usage of the pool decks during the summer and to ensure that there are ample amenities for Owners and guests staying at the resort, the Management Team reserves the right to limit the Day Pass usage during peak periods or establish blackout dates. Please contact the resort prior to your visit and we will do our best to accommodate your needs. To inquire about the possibility of blackout dates or for a complete list of day pass rules, please call 843-686-7343.
