Owners Update at Midtown 45

Just moved over to Midtown 45 from one of the Hiltons in NYC and sat through a relatively quick sales presentation. Only got a $100 incentive but it was just 60 minutes while we waited for data transfer from old iPhones to new at the Apple store - we had the time to waste. The salesman wasn't really excited about anything and we weren't either - he just went through the same old misrepresentations about adding up our reported non-Wyndham travel expenses on an annual basis and multiplying by 10 to represent the next 10 years then touting how much we would save by upgrading to VIPP and dividing the total capital cost of doing that by 10 as the annual alternative cost without respect to the time value of money, the cost of maintenance fees on the points, the loss of value converting them to travel expenses, or the fact that his offer included a 17.5% loan. Needless to say we declined his quite generous offer to swap out our Bali Hai points for Club Wyndham Access as a part of this.

Once again, he pointed out the letter "Q" appeared somewhere in our ownership printout, indicating that "corporate" would have been attempting to contact us "by Zoom" to make us this great offer previously; fortunately Midtown 45 is a "corporate site" and could reinstate that offer for us in recognition of the issue with us somehow missing the "corporate" folks reaching out to us. Oddly enough we were told the same thing in Austin and last year here at Midtown 45. I'm a bit curious if this is a Wyndham Q-Anon thing as the "corporate" folks were anonymous.

The sales offices at Midtown 45 are getting a bit old in the tooth - all the furniture is threadbare and many of the lighting fixtures in the overhead have burned out light bulbs. Midtown 45 itself isn't too bad - we're in a 1 BR Deluxe this time and the only issue was the sink drain stopper not being connected to the operator behind the faucet. It's not real obvious how previous guests here didn't notice and complain about being unable to drain the sink or how housekeeping didn't notice it. Layout of the room is rather odd with an alcove by the door with a small chaise in it but it's a unit with a kitchen in NYC for a decent cost, so it's ok. Guess I'll go back to the presidential ones here for our next trip. In any case, it's rather difficult to see anyone being willing to spend six figures for a new or upgraded ownership package in a sales office that is in the condition the one here is in.

Yeah, we found that strange too when we stayed in it in October. Is this a converted apartment building? The only thing I could figure is that these used to be 2 bedroom units and that was an extremely tiny bedroom. I think you could fit a twin bed in there, maybe even a full size. There was a closet in there as well.

It's the lurking around the elevator that is annoying (similar to Austin and I'm sure others).

But we absolutely love the rooms and location of Midtown.

It's the lurking around the elevator that is annoying (similar to Austin and I'm sure others).

But we absolutely love the rooms and location of Midtown.
The lurking here was annoying but in Austin the front desk limited the number of keys they would give to one to steer you to having to talk with them. Here they were annoying but we could have just smiled and walked by.

The location is decent but I've decided I'm not a big fan of the 1 BR deluxe floor plans. I'll just spring for the presidential next time.

I hate the location of the "update desk" at Austin, i'm sure it's by design but you literally can't get to the elevators without walking right past them and they try to grab you. Governors Green is like that too, right by the exit door so you can't escape.

Here's what I have started to do after some of the check-in desks stopped programming wristbands you bring in with you to get around the wristband police.

1. Bring as many wristbands as you need with you for all your guests
2. Check in. Ask them to program your wristbands. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't. If they don't, proceed to step 5.
3. After checking in, walk past the wristband police, by whatever means necessary
4. Go to your room, unplug the phone
5. Wait a couple hours, then go back to the check-in desk and explain to them that the wristbands you got do not work. They will program them (IE: fix them) without hesitation
6. Ignore any cell phone calls from numbers you don't recognize, enjoy your vacation

Also, checking in after hours (as I often have to do), I have never had the check-in people not program the wristbands. It's during the times when they are there that they sometimes hesitate.
